I own a N55 DCT 335i in Taiwan euro spec. Bought it brand new and the same problem happened within 1 month, no mods. I used to it stalling, probably happens once or twice per month when stock.
I recently installed JB4 stage 2 and now the car stalls a little more frequently. I believe the problem originated from the software or the car(dct, engine) itself. So most likely not the mods as it also stalls when I had nothing modded before. |

2010 N55 135i, 6MT, no mods
My car stalls only if given too little gas (or have to crawl in a heavy traffic) directly after I drive off the parking. It only happens once on a cold engine. After the car stalls, it will never die on me again on the same voyage. The solution is either keeping revs up around 1000 rpm or more manually or drive for a mile or two without stopping. It also stalls in the reverse, yes. I do have this problem quite for a while, no dealer ever found anything wrong, no error codes, etc. |

Today my 2012 DCT 135i stalled while in stop and go traffic. I came to a stop and then the engine died and transmission popped into neutral. After following this thread previously, I felt that it was really only a matter of time before it would happen to me. For what it's worth I'll just point out that I was in D with the AC on. The only mods on my car are JB4 and CPE charge pipe. I hope that this doesn't become a common thing for me now that I've popped the stalling cherry

Guys, Do NOT update to the latest DME S/W. I lost all the pops and gurgles after the update.
Order of mods: Injen intake(fine for 3months with no other mods.) AR catless dp with N55 JB4 stage 1(strange idle and car stalling on slow traffic) Can anyone confirm that the PPK can bring back all the pops and gurgles now that I'm stuck on the latest DME?? thanks. |

Mine has done this a couple of times.
It only seems to have done it when cold and I put it down to the plugs getting on a little (22k km). It hasn't been a problem really and to be honest I'm surprised that BMW manage to get this to work at all given the difficulties involved. For the technology they are using, the wide range of injection quantities they need to cover idle to full load must cause them real headaches. If it gets to be a problem then I'll change the plugs long before I take it to the dealer to have them stuff up my DME.

Just a quick update- I took my car to the dealer to diagnose the stalling/rough idle and got a call back from my SA telling me that they're going to replace the VANOS solenoids.
She also informed me that a DME update is in the works to resolve this known idling issue. I'll report back on any differences that I notice after I pick the car up. |

I have a 2012 135i DCT and it happens only with a/c on when coming to a stop RPM's bounce. I heard there's a recll for the"battery connector cable " that's faulty

This is a wide-spread issue. BMW was supposed to have a DME fix for it in April. They are obviously behind or don't know how to fix it. Who knows. I've been working with them on this issue for 2+ years on my 2011 E92.
Honestly, BMWs are a joke these days on reliability. They bought back my 1-series because of the HPFP issues...now there are these stalling issues on the N55. Can't they keep an engine running anymore??? We'll see what happens with the new software, but if the HPFP fiasco is any indication, it is going to take 4 tries to get it fixed.

I had SIB 12 09 12 installed in December 2012. Seemed to help quite a bit but not a 100% fix, and I "think" there was some minor loss of performance but hard to tell. Based on cheshirecat79's new info, I told the dealer there appears to be an update to the SIB out there, and I want it installed because I don't think my issue is completely resolved. Has anyone else who got the original SIB S/W installed gone back for a second taste of this thing? If I read this correctly, they must have done something else for another S/W release, right? My appt is on 19 June, we'll see what happens.

I also had the same problem. Last week they updated the programming and there is no more bouncing of the revs, and so far the car has not " magically" shifted from D to N.also I feel that there is a little bit less turbo lag. the car seems a little bit quieter on the downside. There is less crackles and pop ( and I have a berk race exhaust) . My car is a 2011, and it seems to had the first programming . Now I'm anxiously waiting that Cobb gives me support for the new ROM. Overall, I like the update!

This is certainly good to hear, and I'll let y'all know what happens once I get the update. The original version quieted down my exhaust so I got a Berk Street axle-back, which was a good thing, but it's still quieter than I'd like. Less burbles and pops now for sure, and I hope it doesn't get any quieter than it is now. I just can't believe it's this hard to make a car idle smoothly these days (especially a BMW) without the throttle lag and stalling that I've experienced as have so many others. I just hope this finally does it.
