I'm strongly considering the SGM with a Terra interior but am unsure how they go together. I've built it on the German site, but it's hard to tell since all I can really see of the colors together is the drivers side shot with a tiny piece of door frame visible. Do you have any pictures you can post of the e90 that might better show the colors together? |

The pictures get you in the ballpark but you really have to go to the BMW dealer and look at the colors. I was totally sold on the graphite until I went and looked. It is very (very) dark and has a distinct purple hue. And for me, not in a good way. What I was really hoping for is only available on the 335 coupe and is called 'space gray'. So for graphite on the Series 1, If you love it I think that's great and more power to you. However, I do advise looking at it in person before you order the car.

I had the opposite reaction. I was never impressed with the pictures. I went and saw it in person, and it convinced me to switch from TiAg.
I also think the purplish hue descriptions are way overblown. (forum groupthink) |

SGM is a distinctive color. The other silver colors look "flatter" to me.
It has a hint of deep grayish purple, but it looks more like a polished gem stone. It certainly doesn't look like Barney. I think it's one of the best colors BMW offers, it's a very complex color that's almost color-shifting depending on how the light hits it.

Yes in the bright sunlight, it seems to almost have a satin finish to it. I had never taken a close look at one until this past Sunday at the dealership.

My mind was made up on getting a SGM, but then I saw it in person and it was to dark for me.

Damn! I have to make my final choices by Saturday! My SA e-mailed and told me mine is scheduled to start build early next week! SGM/Coral or the "looking different every time I see it" Sedona Red/BLK... HELP!!! Is SGM really purplish? I saw a 335 SGM and I couldn't tell. I'd go with Sedona if I wasn't worried about it looking brown like some photos....

When I first heard that SGM looked "purple" in real life, I went down to the local bmw dealership and checked out a 3-series in the same color. You might want to do the same. I was even more impressed with the color in person-- it's a bit darker than it appears in most pictures, darker than Space Grey, but it has a lot more depth. It some lighting angles it looks like it has a hint of "amethyst". I wouldn't go so far as to call it "purple." It does NOT look like a barneymobile.

SGM can be slightly purple in the right light.. its hard to tell..
Though if someone told me that, I'd think that was horrible.. but you really have to see it in person. That said.. SGM looks darker/lighter depending on the light.. which is really a cool effect. Here's my buddy's E46 with SGM. I don't know how much the paint has changed since then. But this is the MOST purple I've seen his car.. http://img205.imagevenue.com/img.php..._122_134lo.JPG Edit: Thud posted while I was posting and yeah.. thats probably a better explanation. Amethyst.
