Plus, he can help you get Roundel center caps because it's impossible to find on the website.

With our wacky weather in Calgary, winter driving can be pretty challenging. Especially with snow falls then warmer temps which make everything nice and icy. After having a 4x4 for the last five years, driving the 1 should be exciting. With the 17 rim, you can get a taller tire (to maintain the same overall tire diameter) which gives more sidewall and better traction in slippery conditions. |

I'm going to get something similar to PeeJay (hopefully from Gill).
17" Sport Edition KM11 (anthracite) with Blizzak WS-60 (maybe the LM25). I'm also considering these M5 reps from tiretrends: http://www.tiretrends.com/wheel_cata...p3?wheelID=164 Will they fit??? |

I hear you. But, due to climate change or whatever else, we've had a lot more snow in the past couple winters than we normally do. Last year we had snow last for almost 2 weeks. That never happens here. It usually snows and then 3 days later the rain washes it away.

I've seen what it does to your city. I was there about a month ago.
We're going up Deerfoot I believe it was and suddenly it gets really dark and it starts raining buckets full. Even wipers at full blast couldn't keep up. Then it starts to hail dime sized hail and the Deerfoot is flooding so we're driving in 5 inches of water. We drive for another 10 minutes and its gone. Spectacular weather!

The Blizzak LM-25's listed above and the Dunlop WinterSport 3D's. The rims are TireRack sport edition alloy wheels. Decent for a winter set.

Tire rack has done some tests on various tires. When you are looking at their selection of tires - you can clilck on consumer reviews and the tests they have done. They are very informative.
Also - here is consumer reports data |

Just my opinion, but not much has been talked about with the WS-60's. I went with the Blizzak WS-60's 215/45/17. Gill had said on another forum he would recommend these tires over the LM-25's.

Wonder if Gill can chime in here.. maybe put together a deal/package for us? Seems like most of us are looking at sport edition rims and some sort of performance winter tire.
At least a recommendation, perhaps. @bye bye GTI: how'd you add the BMW center caps? Decided on 17" KM11's with LM25's.

KM'11's with either the LM25's or the WS-60's would be fine. Those wheels take the OE center caps.
LM25's are higher speed rated for better dry road handling. Not nearly as much snow and ice traction as the WS-60. With 300hp and RWD, I'm going KM11 and WS-60 but that won't be the best package for everyone. It's the one I'm most comfortable with where I drive. Gill

Thanks Gill..
Can BMW center caps be added? EDIT: So I checked out Tiretrends for a Canadian comparison against Tire Rack.. Here's what I decided on. 17x8 Sport Edition KM11 225/45/R17 XL Bridgestone Blizzak LM-25 Shipping to Calgary, tax included. Tiretrends: $2204 Tirerack: $1528 Tirerack also has free balancing.. !

Not to mention that the balancing is on a Hunter Road Force balancing machine. I'm not sure TireTrends has one of those babies.

+1...Calgary weather is peaky...keeps things interesting. The best is riding to work in the morning in shorts and needing a parka for the ride home!

I did get to experience a Chinook once in November about 10 years ago in your city. Very impressive climatic event.

As any smart Calgarian would do, I've started looking into winter tires at the end of August.
