At first, I was looking at springs but thought all of them were too low for my taste. Ended up with coilovers... and set them lower than most aftermarket springs, haha.

I still love the look of your car, Matticus. It's so clean and tidy. Except those front brake rotors! For shame...
With DC roads, I can't blame you for not going with a drop as aggressive as the Eibachs, that would be horrific to drive in-town. However, with everyday driving, and pulling into a steep-ish driveway, all that scrapes are the little wind deflectors in front of the tires up front. I'm in Northern Virginia, very close to my least favorite place I've been to in the country (DC). The quality of DC roads is a disease, the closer you get, the worse they are, and the worse the drivers are.

Nice, I've tried finding information on spring rates for all of the different springs but it seems to be very inconsistent. No one knows for sure.

I think if you put your VIN into BMW ETK, it spits out the right PNs for springs.

I can find the PN's and other info no problem, but spring rates are another story entirely.

Got the car aligned yesterday, didn't take the pins out of the front shock mounts so front camber was limited but so far the car feels fantastic. Way more confident around corners than before, much better turn in, and way more responsive. The reduction in body roll is nothing short of astounding, it really feels like a sports car now and not some mushy sedan!
Spec sheet from the alignment is attached, and here's some bonus pics and the final product. 20171213_130751 by Matt Steele, on Flickr 20171213_134325 by Matt Steele, on Flickr 20171214_143432 by Matt Steele, on Flickr

You should be able to call your local BMW dealer's parts dept. and give them your VIN and tell them you'd like the part numbers for the BMW Performance springs that go with your car.

You could also call any BMW dealership, provide last 7 of VIN, and they can tell you what parts are on your car.

Didn't document all my sources, but tried to make sure at least 2 aligned before calling the value "good." If I found a source but could not corroborate it, I left those red. Don't take it as gospel, but it should give you an idea of what to look at. What I had more trouble getting was amount of lowering since it varies with car and configuration. Spring Front / Rear rate (lbs/in) 135i(M-Sport) 120 / 350 E90 Sport 145 / 460 E90 BMWP 195 / 505 E90 M3 160 / 550 Dinan E82 144 / 490 Cobb E82 142 / 457 Swift E82 201 / 503 BMWP T1/T2 135 / 420 BMWP T2/T3 146 / 460 BMWP T3/T4 160 / 495 KW Street Comfort 286 / 572 Hard since nobody will talk to me about what configuration "belongs" on my LCI 135i E88. P/N's appear to be 31336788891, 8892, & 8893 T1-T3 Front, and 33536788898, 8899 & 8900 T2 - T4 Rear. Certainly do your own research if you're spending your money.

I called a dealer and found out the appropriate performance springs for my car. They are ...892/...899 F/R. These are T2 / T3. This is exactly what I expected from digging up any info I could find.
My car has most options that I can think of (incl sunroof), so other than a 135i AT equipped the same, should be one of the heaviest coupes.

So I am trying to decide on my suspension setup.
I was going to go BMW PS, but it seems no longer available, which makes me wonder if these springs are still available (the non-availability just happened within the last few weeks). I have pretty well decided on Koni Yellows, but the springs are in question. It will either be Eibach Pro or these BMW, but again, I don't know if they will even be an option. I'm not looking for an aggressive drop, and Boston area has some shitty roads too, so I'm liking your logic. It's my DD, so daily liveability is important. I will also be getting M3 front control arms and M3 swaybar. I already have Whiteline inserts. Currently running stock 18" 261's with wider 225/255 MPS4S. I may go to wider wheels (Apex) with even wider tires (235/265), but that is not set in stone yet. Any thoughts on this setup (Koni Yellows and either Eibach or BMW springs) would be welcome.

I'm not a fan of Koni dampers, especially the Single Adjustable yellow ones that people seem to default to. In my experience, Bilstein sport dampers offer better, more compliant handling for street and track use, all while maintaining the ability to shrug off road imperfections with minimal motion transferred to the vehicle. Their mono-tube and gas-pressure design also lends itself to much better longevity that Koni dampers. Additionally, the Bilsteins are backed by a better warranty and are rebuildable if the time ever comes. I've had multiple sets of Koni dampers fail over short periods of use, and at least two individual shocks that were DOA.
As far as springs are concerned, my favorites are Eibach or Dinan, but I've heard zero complaints about the the BMW Performance Suspension springs. I've tried H&R and wasn't particularly impressed, but wouldn't consider them a dealbreaker. Just thought the Eibach springs gave a better ride. |

I'm not married to the Konis - I have just heard about recent quality problems from Bilstein from several places, but none of it is first-hand, that I know of. I don't really want Coilovers, and I don't care about adjustability. I'm pretty much a set-it-and-forget-it guy. Like my tune. I don't want to tinker with it - I just want to find something I like and have it just work consistently, all day, every day. Keep the suggestions coming!
