I've never found out if anyone fitted this to a car that already had the HiFi Professional 10 speaker system (sans Logic 7) and found it a worthwhile upgrade. Anyone able to shed some light on this?

Didn't BimmerBob install one in his 128i ? I remember it was someone who was stationed in Spain who had one fitted to his car and coded by a Spainish dealer. ??? |

So perhaps cars before 03/09 didn't need coding? Anyway, be mindful which kit you order because there's two. |

Exactly. There are 2 kits. The older one does not need coding but is for older cars....

I see. In any case luster is correct in that the coding required can done with ncsexpert and would take no longer than 30 seconds.
I am not even sure what system i have. Its shit so i assume its stereo basic. |

If you don't have tweeters in your A-Sails then you have the basic system.

Interesting thread...
I ordered the Alpine upgrade kit from schmiedmann about a week ago and it is currently en-route to Aus via DHL. In fact it looks like it left London Heathrow just a couple of hours ago so should be here by Monday I'd guess. I'll let you know if there is any damage. I intend buying the $100 USB to OBDII cable and coding the head unit myself. While I'm at it, I think I'll remove that annoying iDrive splash screen warning BS.

He he! the DHL man turned up today (Sunday) can you believe that!
Everything is perfect, no damage and was well packed. I'll look at installing next weekend (time permitting).

OK, will do.
I wasn't intending to use the VAG-COM for the BM but the idea has got me thinking..... but I've already ordered the BM specific one that the guys in the coding thread recommend.... should be here tomorrow or Wednesday at the latest. Actually the VAG-COM won't even help on the Audi at the moment owing to the fact that SWMBO appears to have misinterpreted it as a child's toy and disposed of it

Quick update....
All hardware is in - still waiting for the coding cable to arrive! The only thing that beat me was the power window switch panel on each door panel. They have this crazy clip at the front and I can't for the life of me work out how it goes back in, or what it actually does for that matter. I have temporarily solved the problem buy removing the front clip. Four other clips and two tangs hold this thing in place as it is so you'd never know that anything was missing. If anyone knows how to work this clip then please let me know. I've taken plenty of pictures and will produce a DIY when time permits.

Mate,
This video from BSW shows how to remove and reinstall the door panels (incl. the window switches)... Check out around 3:30 onwards...might help... |

Thanks for that, I've already studied it in minute detail but interestingly, right when he gets to the part where he is reinserting the window switches, the video mysteriously cuts to a point where he just gives it the final push and it's in. Basically altogether missing the vital part showing how to insert the offending clip!

Just picked up the car from Menton BMW of Reutlingen/Tubingen (Germany) where it received the Alpine "audio upgrade".
I am not sure the dealer did this correctly. It sounds overly tinny / peaky from the front speakers (compared to the back) & the base is pretty much over powering every thing else. Reading the responses here and over on E90 it sounds like the head unit was never updated or coded to Hifi? Is there anyway for me to verify this by looking at the Idrive menu? Do the tone settings change?
