BTW, The next M3 WILL NOT use a V6. Our trusty insiders say the mags/rags said that to stir controversy. They are working on another inline 6. The chances of it being boosted is very high.

I still don't think they will call it the ///M1.....
And I like a lot of the ideas thrown around here--sub 3000 lbs, improved engine, better suspension, MUCH lighter.....could be one helluva car.

It sure as hell wont be called an M1. Its just fun for some to call it that. I dont think the ''special'' 135i will be less than 3000lb though. It could stand to shed 200lb to bring it down to 3200ish.

note: the first mention of a V6 was only in reference to the possibility of a twin turbo 6-cylinder, which makes a case for two turbos/two cylinder banks
that 2015 M3 is what catches my eye... e30ish? yes pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease... *although they did mention a V6 there, too.. regardless it goes to show that if you think you know what "rules" bmw has set for itself, you dont. theres already been a V8 in an M3.. all in all i like this direction and i applaud BMW for taking the true motorsport enthusiast's approach to reduced fuel consumption. |

I would love if they kept an N54ish type engine in the 135 market. I think small turbo inline 4's belong in japanese cars (no offense, but I wouldn't be attracted to a high boost small displacement 1 series, boring.)
Edit: Also, yes I know the original Tii 2002 was a small 4 cylinder turbo. It also weighed nothing. Times have changed, cars are heavier, we demand more from them. I think if BMW is smart, they can keep the N54 engine design, reduce its displacement to 2.5 to get the efficiency they want. Raise the boost slightly and you have the same engine, perhaps a little higher in the revs and powerband but nowhere near a 4 banger redlining at 9 and boosting 22 psi. 2.5 liter inline 6 were found in the older supras, right? The N54 is such a good engine. If it aint broke, dont fix it!! BMW needs to keep this trend going, big torque, good power, small package if they want to keep this new market they have just acquired. I wouldnt mind if an M3 had a TT V6, who cares what delivers the power right? As long as it gives you that torque that you crave. On second thought, you will all be asking me "what does it matter if a 4 cylinder turbo delivers the power you crave?". Indeed good point, but show me a 2 liter 4 cylinder turbo that makes 300 ft lbs of torque at 2200 RPM and keeps it until 5500. Decisions, decisions |

original tii was not a turbo, it was fuel injected, the ti was between the regular and the tii
the turbo's were called turbo's

I hear the R32 does an even better job at it too. One of the best sounding turbo 4-bangers out there.

The R32 actually has a 3.2 liter V6. It does sound good though.

Well if they introduce the supersport version in 2010, I might trade the M3 in and get that. It would make a sweet reason for another Euro Delivery (look honey, I'm getting the cheaper car!) - and it would address all the issues for which I chose an M3 over a 135i this year...

It matters to me, because if I shell out 30k of hard earned money I expect it to come with a warranty. But that is just me, and I hold nothing against those who do mod. I will too, three years or 38k miles from now.

I will keep the low end torque and better power band of an I6 instead of torqueless high revving 4 banger with lag. I think it would be a downgrade to the engine already in the 135i.
