The ZF8 speed automatic in the M135i pretty much shifts as quick as the DCT 135i Coupe I test drove. DCT downshifts multiple gears better than the M135i from what I experienced.
Anyways, I hope the M2 isn't a limited run like the 1M. I'd also like to see a unique M engine in it, rather than a chipped version of the standard one. |

There was nothing sinister in my comments pav, I was just sayin that the 1M in my opinion will have a better retained $ % than say a M135i, same goes for a 335 vee a M3
You are special JB, an exception to the norm no doubt Thanks for your valuable input. Quote:
Reigns, I appreciate you are not as travelled on this site as some of us but there are a few differences between the stock N55 drive train and the 1Ms, more than just a "chip" |

Ah ok. N54 in 135i next to N54 in 1M. Lightened flywheel, bigger intercooler, chipped up power output. Am I missing anything? Drive train there are a heck of a lot of differences no doubt about that!
Apologies if my responses are kinda nooby! |

Suggest that 1M owners or anyone who has access to a 1M, should take a spirited test drive in the M135i and post your observations between the 2.
From my hands and butt, they are 2 quite different handling cars notwithstanding the close numbers and it's really horses for courses. And if you aren't convinced about the fugly looks of the M135i (compared to the 135i or 1M), pop in to Trivett Classic. There's a M135i, sitting next to a new VO 1M and 135i. |

It's great that the forum has been livened up by the addition of another good vehicle which should take our discussions into the 2 series and M2. Can't wait for the M2! |

I had a good drive in it. Better balanced and poised IMO to the point that even my missus has a chance of driving it quick. I guess that's why the 1M is called a driver's car.

I'm a big fan of the DCT but I think it's 2 biggest downsides are:
- it's not easy to launch, therefore not the best for drag racing - diff is welded so aftermarket LSD's are 4k + Everywhere else, the DCT is unbelievable. If these things aren't a concern than the DCT is perfect. I personally prefer the 8spd because imho, it felt 90% as quick as the DCT which is amazing. I assume the 8spd is bolted as opposed to welded so LSD is only a 2k investment and it shouldn't be any harder to launch than the 6spd steptronics. Plus you've got an extra 2 gears over the N54 step and N55 DCT so fuel economy gets even better on the highway. Both transmissions are amazing though. |

May I ask who installed your diff (I realise you're in qld am im in nsw) and what diff oil do you run? I'm getting ready to organise to have my wavetrac installed, but am thinking i might at well get the subframe bushes, coilovers toe arms sways end links installed whilst she is all apart |

I have heard its wise to change diff oil as often as your crankcase if you drive your car hard. And another excuse to buy all the supporting parts also to do with the diff |
