That's a British article. Not likely we'll be seeing any of that marketing or content over here.
Now that the ZMP M-pack is offered in the US versions, that will likely be as good as it gets for the E82 |

Lightweight glass? Good luck getting that approved by the US DOT.
Cars like this never make it over here because its too damn expensive to fit the needs of Americans and are likely to sit on showroom floors like the E36 LTW did. E36 Evo? E36 CSL? E46 CSL? If the SS talk is legit, I hope the parts are interchangeable with the current 135's. I would hate to have to sell my car (and if I did I would get a Porsche...). |

sounds like more dressup crap, so they can keep it overseas (but really are they just trying to test their marketing/badging department? tii? supersports? i hope type r is next!). next/F20 chassis.. that's where it's at, once they do this back-to-basics/lightweight/efficient dynamics thing from the ground up and finish off that turbo 4
either way it's good news eh?? |

Gosh I am still in love with the E46M3/CSL, that car has to go down in BMW history as one of the best looking and best performance, back then, M car it has ever made.

Honestly, at this point I kind of doubt this will happen, given the M division seems to be focusing on SUVs now.
"M" has now become a way for BMW to rip off badge whores.

Yes and no.
A long drive down an empty winding road in the new M3 should dispel your fears.

I still like the days when no one know what a M3 is or can differentiate between normal 3 series vs. M3. I really enjoy the e46m3 forum on roadfly, while the forumers were arrogant as their cars, most of the discussions were intellectual and technical. I felt I learned a lot there but e90post is a cluster f of argument who's more bling and baller. There are still good folks over there but I think the idoits out number them.

But that doesn't take away from the merits of the car - I truly had an epiphany in the E90 M3.

i have an E90 M3 and a 130i with lsd and some goodies.
The engine at 8400rpm is to die for. But everything else goes to the 130i handling agility etc. The new m3 is just to big and to heavy to wear a Motorsport badge. ///M marketing is more like it. This is my last m3 for sure if they keep on building race trucks. Just make an M version of the 1 series hatch with 320 hp six banger atmo with 8000 rpm on tap. Everything else in the bmw showroom is to big and way to heavy to start with. Which empty head put s a Motorsport badge on such cruise ships. Only the engine is Motorsport worthy. Now they comming with engines from BMW AG factory with turbo s reworked by bmw motorsport X5M X6M. But no engines comming from bmw motorsport own development. You must be a complete fool to buy a car with M motorsport badge --- pay premium get half. |

As you've said, there are good reasons to get the M3 - to the engine, I'd also add the suspension. Unless you are prepared to add very many "goodies" to a 130i or 135i, deal with potential warranty issues etc.

Depending on the Specs I would trade my 135i for a supersport model in a heart beat. I love the 1er... I dont think I will every buy another model....

NO FWD . And yes Huckfeldt knows exactly where BMW want to take the design direction of the next generation 1er , and that is to be a complete stand out car in the compact class.
Right now BMW like other manufacturers are preparing for the cars that will arise when the economy picks up again , and the 1er is one of these cars with the aim to be a very unconventional choice in the compact segment. With the 1er and the clamour for smaller luxury cars BMW are working on , and or well on the way of conceiving a strategy of progressing tried and tested segments The Progressive Activity Sedan is one such project from this strategy that will enter for the 1er programme. The Z2 concept features a very dramatic about-turn from the new Z4 although the short rear deck and long hood remains the front end is entirely different - think back to the mille miglia concept car and indeed Huckfeldts current 1er Coupe impression although the grille will be wide and not upright like the concept . The headlights sit at the bonnet edge surrounded by a wide upside down kidney grille The rear is less of a resemblance to the new Z4 and the typical BMW look with a more rounded rear end. BMW were always adament that the Z family would not be one model , different size. The Z2 will also inherit a folding soft top originally developed for the Z4 made to be more compact and accomodating than the previous Z4. This will give the Z2 reasonable cargo space. After the initial introduction in the next generation of M5 , BMW will eventually develop KERS to filter down to it's general road car product line as a next phase in the continuance of Efficient Dynamics. |
