Some final calculations prior to ordering wheels. I plan on using the Toyo R888R's with a 265/35 front and 315/30 rear. Using the specifications provided by Toyo I was able to calculate the overall tire width on 10.5" and 12" wide wheels.
Based on my calculations the front maximum tire width will be 11.1" and the rear will be 13.0". I made the tires in CAD and plugged them into my model. I also plugged in 2.8° front camber and 1.8° rear camber. This results in a 2mm clearance from the tire to the inner fender panel in the rear and a 9mm clearance in the front. More room in the front will allow me to run a 275 width if I feel I need to in the future. I am going with the 265 so I can get a small amount of stretch on the 10.1" tread width to preload the tire for better handling and feedback. It will be interesting to see how accurate my calculations are when the wheels/tires come in. Front: 265/35 Toyo R888R | R Disk 10.5" width 4mm offset | 2.8° Camber Rear: 315/30 Toyo R888R | A Disk 12" width -2mm offset | 1.8° Camber Another factor I considered was the overall tire diameter. The stock setup is 24.77" front and 24.75" rear, so approximately flat. The new setup will increase the height by 0.5-0.7" to 25.30" front and 25.44" rear. In theory, I believe this will be the widest setup that offers the best handling possible for an e82. This may seem overkill, but I haven't found any E82's using a clinched widebody for a track oriented car. They all seem to be stanced. Some guys are running 13" wide wheels, but with massive camber angles and tire stretch.

Decided to start with the rear. Removing the old shocks turned out to be a chore when the top hex portion sheared off so I ground into the rod and used a wrench to hold it while I removed the top nut.
Subframe lowered, ready to put the solid bushes in. Doing the diff may be tricky as I'm trying not to have to remove the diff nut.

4 hours to drop the subframe, get the old suspension and bushings out, minus the diff. Not bad. That's it for today, hopefully finish up tomorrow.

Rear diff bushing is out. Not sure how I'm going to get the front ones out yet since there isn't much support for the cup tool I'm using.

That was a tough job, but all the bushings are in. Now for a short vacation, then I'll get the coilovers in when I get back.

I have finally gotten around to installing the rear coilovers. Just waiting on new subframe bolts before I put the rear back together then move to the front.

Supply chains are really a mess right now and everything seems backlogged. Still waiting on word from Japan on my wheels. At least I got the Pure stage 2 High Flow turbo's ordered, probably a few weeks for delivery so I'll get the front end up in the air and start taking things apart.

did you get your wheels figured out? I can get you in touch with a wheel manufacturer that can cut almost anything from t6061 at a fraction of the price from most other companies.

So I've had this Setrab 50-920-7612 oil cooler and IR 185F thermostat sitting on my shelf for a few years and I'll finally be making a custom mount for it. My plan right now is to place it on the diver side in series with the stock cooler.

Dang that looks good! I cant wait to see it all painted. Are you having the widebody molded or just bolted on? Would look amazing molded to the car!

Still no delivery date from Pure for the turbos, but I will get the car jacked up and begin the fun process of pulling the old twins out soon. Unfortunately, with a fleet of Italians, there are no shortage of projects going on.

Impressive thread, even more impressive build, most impressive technical chops! I'm just poking my nose under the E82 tent and getting a feel for things. This is truly inspiring.
A question if I may: why stay with the stock diff? My understanding is that 128s in the US are all open diffs, other than perhaps the 1M. |

Open diffs are really just a cost savings measure from OEM. I'm actually in the LSD Group Buy so I'll be upgrading to the M factory Helical Differential.

Wow great build👌🏽
I'm eager to see the finished product🔥 Any info on the chasis mounted brackets for the wing? Would it fit a CSL style trunk? |
