Just don't drop off the track slightly sideways on a saw tooth ripple strip....those things will rip a hole in the body.

The picture you see is with the rocker panel off - so with the rocker panel on, they only extend a little below that.

OK, so I bought a new Michelin Aluminum jack which is low enough to fit under those plastic jack points on the 135i. I also bought 2 jack stands.
Now I have a simple question for you guys: I want to swap my front wheels (left to right, and vice versa). Please outline for me step by step how I should do this with the equipment I have. I know this may sound like a stupid question, but there are some details I haven't entirely figured out (see below) (Specificially, please tell me where I should jack the car up, and where I should place the jack stand. Also, if I can get one side up on the jack stand and take a wheel off, is it safe to jack up the car on the other side while the car is on a jack stand?)

Hey bman6074 vbmenu_register("postmenu_175147", true);
What's you ceiling height in that garage? Would love a hoist to get an extra car space, do I could have an extra toy but with a 3000 mm ceiling the toy choices are limited. An Exige fits with the mini so the choices would not be too bad! |

Does someone have a picture indicating the location of these jack points?
And actually, what's the point of all that plastic underneath? Has anyone just removed it? |

to do a left side to right side swap, you need to get both sides of the car up at one time, unless you want to back and forth a couple of times (swap the fronts, then repeat the process to swap the rears)

1) Jack up car using the right left rear jack point. 2) Insert jack stand under right front jack point. 3) Remove right front wheel 4) Remove jack from right rear jack point (so that the car is only supported by the jack stand under the right front jack point and the remianing 3 tires) Now, is it safe to use the jack to raise the car from the left front jack point while it is supported by a jack stand under the right front jack point???? I'm afriad the car will tip over the jack stand as the left side is being jacked up....... If the above step can be done safely, then I'm home free as both front axles are lifted and I can safely swap front tires.

Replace the wheel on the side with just the jack on it (in this case the left) first.

Is there a rear jack point on a 135i that allows you to lift both rear wheels at the same time? Something similar to the front jack point. If not, would lifting it under the differential cause any damage?

Thanks, that's very helpful.
Is there a rubber contact point (or something) on the rear differential that indicates the jacking point? |

No, but there is a fairly large flat surface that the rubber pad on the jack will fit on with no problem.

seriously...all you are doing is driving on a scrap piece of 2x...to gain a little extra clearance to put your jack underneath...do you seriously think that you are at risk of damage to your car???? the only thing you need to be concerned with that is if you have a nail in it and puncture a tire...c'mon...it's not rocket science..

to jack the front up, drive onto some 2x8 wood (or jack up each side, and lower onto the wood if you think driving onto the boards is unsafe lol), then jack up from the center point (point 1 above), and place stands under the left and right pads. for the rear, use the diff (not the diff cover) to jack it up, and place stands under the left and right pads. |
