So the "finished" product....
The drivetrain conversion took about 4 months in total but the result is very clean. Other than needing a duct to match up the intakes, the engine bay looks OEM. The M3 DCT shifter was used and the control switches housed in a small extra panel in the console tray. I'm planning to refine this later by moving the shift control to where the 'Sport' button is and using the E82 TCS off button. Seats were swapped for Recaro Sportster CS with some custom F80 style belts. 1M mirrors were added. My car has S430A (auto tilt, fold & tint). For this spec the RHD part numbers are: L Mirror 51168051925 R Mirror 51168051926 L Cover 51168043225 R Cover 51168043226 L Glass 51168041951 R Glass 51168041952 The first track outing... Just want to say this is an incredible build...
Sorry to defer this to a bit of an off topic question, but you mentioned "Soon I had a scruffy looking and very dirty 135i parked across my driveway with a dead (not just flat) battery and no way into the boot... After working out how to get the DCT out of Park and some surgery to get at the rear seat release cable it was in the garage and underway..." Would you care to share, how you were able to get to the rear sear cable? |

The Recaros are Sportster CS with airbag but not heating. They are mounted on manual sliders and custom alloy floor adapters (I don't like the multi hole adapters much). The belts are available aftermarket from a couple of places or it's possible to transfer OEM F80 belts onto the E82 reels. Mine are aftermarket from a guy called Johny Ionut (you can find him on FB). |

Thank you for that info! Brilliant Post, Iv always felt my 1M lacked a better seat and the highlight on the seatbelt just brings it bang up to date with current cars.
I replaced the steeringwheel on my car the previous weekend and had the battery disconnected, luckily i always have this habit of folding down the seat , if I hadnt, i wouldve been in trouble because, yeah I closed the bootlid. Found the below post while trolling for an answer, I hope us 1series guys can apply the same logic. In short, the guy basically traced down the harness that operates the solenoid in the boot and was able to pop the bootlid by giving it some power. I found that was extremely helpful in scenarios like mine, where the battery was disconnected and the charging pins in the front of the car wouldnt help. https://www.e90post.com/forums/showt...=690147&page=3 |

It's done a couple of trackdays and had a few details tidied up. Aside from Covid spoiling trackdays for a while I'm currently doing some renovation (partly so it has a decent home) which have slowed things down a bit.
Finalised the brake setup: F80 M3 rotors & rear calipers, Slon Workshop 6 piston front calipers, F80 booster & master cylinder. Upgraded the cooling with the DO88 E92 M3 kit. Bigger radiator, PS & DCT coolers fitted. The engine oil cooler is too wide and needs the M3 rad support so I'm tossing up whether to mod mine, swap it out (depends on fit with bumper cover) or make up a custom solution. Got some dedicated track wheels and fitted the Pilot Sport Cups to them and switched to Pilot Super Sports for road driving (after a couple of scares in the rain...) The next few details to be sorted are probably some tweaking of the exhaust, getting rid of some of the remaining rubber bushes in the suspension and fitting the carbon plenum that should be on it's way. Still debating whether to fit the AGI 1/2 cage that is sitting in the garage... |
