Don't you guys have ANY common sense?
This car is a prototype! NOT a production car. The seats pictured are the VERY SAME seats we have in our 135i's except that they are cloth covered. Ours are covered in leather or leatherette. Just because the tach has a 7k red line doesn't mean it will pull/rev to 7K! The 135i also has a red line - color at 7k. Does it pull to 7K? No! The 1M speedometer goes to 300 kph (186 mph) but yet the car will only do 250 kph (so it has been said). And maybe up too 280 kph with a M-school unlock certificate. ? |

Omg the speedo looks terrible! Ugh, looks like they took the e46 m3 tach and tried to jazz it up but failed horribly. Very uncharacterisitic of an M car. And im pretty sure its production seeing that the rpm x 1000 etc fonts cradle the curves. In any case let's hope this M's motif is "function" over form.

Pic by Tuned1 has 7k redline
Dackelone is right - they could raise it to 7500 and it would be meaningless. I doubt they'd do that without ANY increase in high RPM performance, and maybe even internal changes though. Maybe they'd bump the HP peak from iS-like 5900 to 6400. But how long would such an undersquare engine survive if it hit 7500 routinely? Gonna be a lot of these sitting at the dealer with a hole in the side of the block if it's not pretty super stout inside . . . |

I hate to be a pessimist here, but... Where is the "in-depth look", exactly? There isn't anything here we haven't seen before.

Just watch the in car video they posted. He revs to at least 7200. It prolly pulls to 7000 and redlines at 7500. peak torque should hold til around 6000 and taper slowly with opened up heads and different snails/cams/exhaust.

I am both seriously annoyed and somewhat dissapointed already with the whole marketing game BMW is playing. I don't usually say such things because I am okay with waiting and seeing the final product. But on top of the annoying marketing strategy here, the car is beginning to fail BIG TIME. Those gauges look awful, it reminds me of a Subaru WRX or like someone else said an EVO. It looks like complete shit, the old, out dated E46 M3 had much nicer gauges to date.
Those seats...(if they are production seats) look worse and less sporty then a regular non M car. BMW...Scott26..I suggest releasing the final version ahead of your schedule because you are loosing many fans and enthusiasts with this marketing strategy.

Nah, they're losing nothing. Wait until the magazines get to actually do some testing and they start building this thing up as a Cayman/M3/S5/IS-F killer; the down and dirty, good grunt/great handling Bimmer that hasn't been around for a decade. People will be freaking out and stacking up in queues at the dealer.
The LAST thing they have to worry about is whether they can sell 500 1Ms. |

I have to agree about this marketing strategy and all future marketing strategies. Let us imagine what a car will look like with the camo'd Nurburgring pics and videos. Leave it at that and put these wasted marketing dollars back into better R&D and end products.

I assume the UK revealing is very soon. I think someone from the UK check with their dealers to see when they are viewing the 1M - and we would know approximately what they are showing next.

I hope we DON'T get cloth standard. Alcantra/leather would be suitable instead. I don't want to pay more for a car with less in it. Scott said before (I don't recall the thread) that this car would have things that would be standard in a M car be options in this. This would be following the Porsche guidelines for paying more for less but just with no performance advantage.

Marketing strategies like this work if the time frame is appropriate. Unfortunately, the time BMW has taken since it was first leaked has been WAY too long...
The only good reason for taking so long, is so they can leak things to us and get our opinions. Thus making a car which enthusiasts want. But this again, doesn't seem like it's happening as everything it started out to be, is slowly being taken away. |

Come on, 1addicts. Dont get worked up so easily. This is a pro to type. I do agree that they need to work on those gauges though.
