Now get yourself a small racheting strap to keep the spare from sliding around. Anchor the ends to the two hooks on the inside of the trunk nearest the latch. Slide the wheel all the way so it is flush against the inside panel (same side as the hooks). Run the strap around the tire and tighten. I put my spare in a tire tote as well so that if I need to change a tire I have a clean bag to put the flat one in.

I'm still waiting to see if anyone can confirm if this steel emergency spare on a steel wheel will clear the brakes on a 135i. If it does, I'd be interested in one, but I haven't seen anyone confirm this yet. In the meantime, I'm going with a can of Green Slime and a small air pump for my winter non-RFTs. |

Hi Guys,
Well... I got a spare tire for my 135i. I was really just uneasy about driving far from home without a viable spare. My local BMW dealer hooked me up with a deal. I got a alloy 17 inch wheel/tire from an e46 and the jack kit for the 135i. I paid 220 euros for the tire & jack kit. Here are some pics and the part numbers. Alloy e46 wheel & tire: 36 11 0 445 045 - 120 euros jack kit 71 10 6 73 536 - 100 euros The alloy wheel and tire are very light - about 7lbs I would guess WITH the tire! Also the rim is narrow, 3.5 inches I believe. 3.5jx17. The tire is the same height as the normal tires. When I placed them side by side the overall dia/height is the same. Plus the grey alloy wheel looks way more sexy than a steel wheel from an e60. :P The jack kit somes with alot of stuff: the Jack & ratchet, wheel chock/wedge, torque wrench, work gloves. And directions on how to change a tire! lol I also test fitted the mini spare to make sure it clears the 135i's big front brake calipers. It does!! This is really the way to go I think. At first I was thinking of a full size option... but that would really cut down on trunk space. IF I were to get a flat I could always throw on one of my winter tires to get me around. But this mini spare is for an emergency so I don't have to wait on AAA or ADAC to come for hours on end. I think its more for my peace of mind than anything else. |

When I plug this part number (36 11 0 445 045) in to the oem web site, it brings up this item as a spare for the E90 vehicles

Also with this alloy wheel you do not need to buy differnt wheel bolts! A big plus in my book. Who wants them rolling around in your trunk! Or trying to look for them on the side of the road! bye David |

It appears that the 5 spoke spare is blocked from being shipped to the US.

You might want to do some practicing with that jack as it looks like the OEM from my E46 which is extremely flimsy.
Personally, I prefer carrying a small compressor & plug kit (but no goo). Tom |

Spare tire and jack kit 71100445667 or just the alloy wheel and tire: 36110445045 IF those two parts are truely not available in the USA, you could always order the e60 spare tire kit (tire, wheel and jack kit). But thats a little bit more money and space. I think my BMW dealer originally said the alloy wheel/tire was like 160 euros. But they cut that down to 120 euros for me. I really like this wheel bc its very light and compack. I just did not want to drive to a far away land like Italy or Austria and get a flat tire and THEN be stuck there for days until I could get a replacement tire. I woud rather carry this spare tire around - JUST IN CASE. Just to get my back home to DE. As for the flimsy jack... yea... I know. It only has to work once or twice. I have a nice German floor jack for all my service/maintanence needs. bye, David |

I have a jack, breaker bar, 12v pump and a plug kit. I've done 2 quick plugs on the side of the road before and never had a problem..... but never on my 1er.
Lot cheaper and smaller than the spare, but you may have to be a roadside mechanic for 30mins. don't forget to pack some latex gloves and towels for cleaning. |

wow, really? I would try to call another time and see if you get a different person to answer your call. The 2nd time I called to place the order, they said the quote I got for $189 shipped was wrong, so it could had been a bit higher. I found the person who gave me the $189 quote and we got it shipped out at that price.

re: Jack...
My jack does NOT look like the one above. Mine works like a scissor jack. The one above kind of stands on one leg as it lifts the car. Very unstable design. I like the scissor type better. My jack comes with a ratchet to raise and lower the scissor jack. To lower the jack you just flip over the ratchet. It's written in English and Deutsche. Some pics of my bmw jack... This jack part number is: 71 10 6 773 536 cost me 100 euros. The jack kit is thought out well. It comes with everything you possible need to change a tire. Not just a jack! It comes with wheel chock, work gloves, tire wedge, and a torque wrench. The thing I meant to say is... this alloy spare tire is really light! When I look at that steel rim and tire... I think someone said it weigh'd in at 20lbs! I have not weigh'd my alloy spare tire... but its light! Dam light! IF it comes in at 7lbs I would be surprised. Thats wheel AND tire. The spare doesn't take up that much room either. I even saw somewhere a German e87 car with the false floor that covers up the spare tire option. I will have to look for that photo again. IF I remember right that new fale floor was buckOs at the Bmw dealer. 140 euros? bye, David Last edited by Dackelone; 04-04-2010 at 05:55 PM.. |

Vredestein?
I was hoping to get a Vredestein Space Master but have not been successful finding the right one....if there is one. Direct contact with the company yielded only "We only make Space Masters for cars who's at the factory with Space Masters are provided". Great spare....it collapses in on itself when deflated so it's very small and has regular tread for almost normal use. It's a Netherlands company.
