I'm curious on what was your plan for mounting the front plate. Those basic dealer plate mounts look so out of place on the front like that. are a couple of good solutions in this thread http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=604593 I ended up going with the double sided tape option seen in post #20. It looks very clean and its so far so good as far as staying on....130 mph ops check good! BMW also sells a euro front plate mount (and hole template) that helps provide a smoother transition for the plate. Now I need to work on how to get the cleanest install for the rear plate.

On another note, I just picked my car up last week and I'm in need of some winter wheels. Where is a good place around here to get some good winter wheels and tires? I know the forum loves tire rack, I just don't have the time right now to wait on a shipment from them. |

I have the double sided tape on mine both front and back. Looks clean and no issues whatsoever.

I also forgot. The one i used is a German brand called Tesa which you can get at any German hardware store. Will hold up past 150mph.

I just ordered this http://skenedesign.com/FPBracket/Gallery.shtml . Since Im having my bumper replaced, I dont want those damn holes there. We'll see how it turns out. I'm down for a Spang Meet & Greet. Not driving the 1er in the snow (except to get the bumper replaced) so I'm rockin the 94 Golf.

Foacad...sorry to hear/see that about your bumper...having bought two BMWs here in Europe via mil sales...I was explicit and adamant and really a pain in the ass about reminding salespeople that I didn't want holes drilled in my bumper...luckily both times they honored my wishes...I'll be interested in how this turns out.
the 1 series has a deeper bumper overhang than the 1M so it's easier to modify an L-shaped bracket and using double sided tape and a couple of screws, you can secure your plate without drilling directly in the front... I have two different solutions posted, one for my 135 and the other for my 1M, so search the forums for solutions if you get a new bumper.. Good luck. |

Just to update the front number plate situation.
Talked to my salesperson and she continued to express how sorry she was. I asked for a new front bumper cover and she said that she didnt think that would be possible due to the fact that here in Germany it is a federal law to have a front number plate. I then told her that it doesnt require holes in my bumper to put the plate on. I asked if there was any way to just swap the bumper cover out with another AW 135i that hadnt had its holes drilled yet. She then said that might be possible and went to talk to her boss. Her boss comes back and says that isnt possible. I push back a little more and he throws out a compromise, he said that since its a federal law (he is german so he isnt likely to budge) that he would authorize me to get a new bumper cover when i bring it in to prep it for shipment back to the states. I then made sure he would honor this by getting it in writing. Sooo, now i have in writing that they failed to honor my request of not putting a front number plate on and when i get ready to have it shipped i will be able to bring it in and get the bumper switched out as well as the Navi maps switched to US free of charge on both. Its not instant gratification but i can live with the compromise that was made. And now for the pics... |

Nice compromise. Before you head back swap bumper covers with me. I'd gladly trade 2 license plate holes to get rid of the scuff in front of the passenger tire.

Ah, you're up 2 hours away from me and 45 minutes from Dackelone. We definetly need to get together when the weather gets better. Glad for you that you were able to get a compromise done.
