i would imagine future BMW ECUs are going to make it really really hard to increase boost without voiding your warranty

Don't you think the new 1M will actually have more than just 340 PS? We know a N54 with BMW's Performance Power Kit (PPK) makes 320 Hp. And the engine in the 1M, N54B03OTO will come with larger turbos! So... common sense would suggest BMW is under rating this engine too. In order to protect some M3 ego's and sales. Dackel |

Do we know that for sure or is it still speculation/wishful thinking? I hope its true!

I thought the slightly larger turbos were only speculated?
Has this been confirmed?

i dont know what all the fuss is about a tuned 135 having more hp than a 1M. The car was built to improve on the areas that the 1series failed. The car was never missing power. And with the 'tuner logic' you could just boost the 1m's horsepower the same as a regular 135.

The 1M specs are supposed to be unveiled sometime in December. I wouldn't count on the other specs being mentioned anytime soon if they are the basis for the next M3.

This doesn't make much sense, the same exact engine code making 111hp more? The only way a production N54 would make that much hp is if there were bigger turbos, but why would they put bigger turbos on the 1M engine only to make 340hp, seems like overkill.

Dackel, The November Automobile magazine backs up your point here. In an article written in journal form about the Paris auto show the author quotes the BMW booth as saying the 1M will NOT be limited production, with no other details.

The term "S" is actually used to describe the M Sport 135i.
If you look at the date you see they have a 135i "S" listed for 2008. The 451 is the potential. But do not see it an "official" production car. BMW will not hinder the M3 in it's remaining years with the 1M. |

That is an unfortunate typo. Don't get your hopes up. That is the normal 1m or the us with stricter emissions control with only 232kw and not 332kw

At the end of the day, BMW is planning to make money on it (contrary to Lexus which continue to claim they are losing money on every single $400K LFA they sell, which may be true as this is written off as marketing cost and re-branding in building a 'halo' car). So the volume needs to be high, even though relative to other ///Ms I'de venture a guess and say that it's development and production costs are far less (not being built from the ground up and gone years of R&D, testing, etc. - which just about all other ///Ms are).

I think we are well aware of the N54's potential and its ability to safely operate in those figures, with all the highly tuned cars here you very rarely hear of blown engines (and some have quite the aggressive setups). But the future M3 N54's engine (or whatever variant is used) will likely share less than we think currently. Surely bigger and more efficient turbos, I/C, dual intakes, DI+Valvetronic+whatever new development comes up by then, etc. etc. By the time the ///M magicians are done, it will look like something altogether new is my guess than a first kin relative to the N54
