As I put in a previous thread, I sent an e-mail to BMWUSA, and they responded accordingly:

"Thank you for contacting BMW of North America, LLC regarding the status of your commemorative Year One of the One BMW 135i Convertible. The Year One of the One 1 Series will build through the end of February 2009."

The 1 Series arrived in the USA around March 08, so BMW will consider all 1er's built till the end of Feb 09 as "year 1 of the 1" vehicles. Gee, seems like a time frame of, um, 1 year.

WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL?!?

So does this mean that the people (me) that are getting an '09 that is included in this time frame will also get the book and certificate then? Anyone who pick their car up this week get the book???

Could it be as sweet as my new navi and the book?

I'll admit I was a bit bummed to learn that one could get the '09 with upgraded Navi and the commemorative book. The book is the exclusive bit in my mind.

I suppose it was my own fault to assume that the "year one of the 1" promo would be limited to model year 2008 cars. Had I known otherwise, I may have waited for the new Navi.

Oh well, I take solace in the fact that sparkling graphite metallic was limited to model year 2008 ;-)

I'm certainly not mad at BMW, or any other enthusiasts, though!

Guess I'll just have to consider the new Navi as a candidate for retrofitting!

That's a good one. From now on I won't underestimate BMW's marketing savvy.

I picked up my '09 on October 13th and it was a Wk 40 build. It has the engraving and I think the response by BMWNA posted by morgie2 makes perfect sense. The majority of new BMW buyers probably don't even know when the change over of the model year is so defining a year as 12 months seems more than reasonable.

The only thing I can see about this being a big deal, is now people with a 09 model with the engraving will have a rare 1series. May make it a little more or possibly less desirable in the coming years. Only time will tell.
If anything i am more a bit perturbed about SPCAE GRAY and the MATTE GRAY trim. As these are things I asked for even said would pay for custom. But was told its too new of a car. AND now they are offering them.

Thanks for the info. That makes sense. I think we can let that slide for counting as "year 1."

The 1 series has been out since 2004.

but at least BMW is kind enough to do something nice to the U.S. customers. Many appreciate such details.

Perhaps the promotion should have been "1/2 year 1 of the 1", March to September.

I don't think BMW meant any deception whatsoever. I think it is a case of dealerships conveying the wrong info to the general public. I sent the e-mail to BMWUSA,they told me in a very "matter of fact" manner my 09 would have the engraved ring and I would get a book in approx. 8 weeks. I do feel badly for those of you who feel cheated, as I am an enthusiast also and "get" where you are coming from. But the way I look at it, my order was placed in August 08. I took delivery October 08. If the 1st 1er hit our shores January 1 of 08, I'm still within the 12 month time frame. Everything regarding my car is 08, except the model year.

OK, we '08 guys forgive you. If you think about it.. '08 models normally go on sale late '07 so it makes sense for bmw to consider "year one" as March '08 to March '09 due to them not going on sale until around March '08.
