NEW Tire Size Setup with 19" OEM Wheels
on Michelin Pilot Super Sports Tires: Front 265/35-19, Rear 285/35-19 with Warranty-Replaced Wheel-wells by BMW Slight Rubbing on Complete Wheel Lock + Uneven Surface Slight Rubbing on Major Road Bumps, Uneven Road Surface .. other then that, the car feels how it should have been out of the box. Btw I started calculating diagonal distance from the hub which to me is a bigger factor in determining rubbing in the front under turns. I think my 245/40R18 is a few mm longer in the diagonals on 18x9.5 +22 which now rubs at about a full turn. Michelin Pilot A/S 3 FYI

From the autocross perspective (my monthly visit to the forum):
Hoosier A6 265/35-19 on the front and 315/30-19 in the rear. Minor rubbing on the front and no rubbing on the rear. Hoosier already offers the A7 in the 315/30-19 and will be offering the 265 in the future as they deplete old stock and ramp up manufacturing for that size.

OEM should be fine. I have Forgestar wheels (in the pic above). I had them built (two sets) with an extra 6 mm offset (as per the SCCA autocross rules), but everything else was original 9"x19" and 10"x19". I would consider sell one of those sets if you're interested.

I'll reply offline. No other mods to the car except for minor wear on the liners but I was using 265 35 19 Hoosier A6 in the front. The rear I put on 315 35 19 Hoosier A6s in the rear with zero rubbing.

Just again for personal reference:
Since receiving feedback on this thread a while back, I have been attending autocross and high-performance driving events with a 265/35-19 and 285/35-19 staggered setup on Michelin Pilot Super Sports. I have added Ohlins Road & Track Coilovers to my suspension, already equipped with Vorshlag camber plates. While reading around the boards and talking with drivers, I encountered many recommending an 18" square setup (most predominantly 275/35-18 on APEX ARC-8's or EC-7's, which have a 2lb weight difference between the two with the EC-7's weighing slightly heavier) to counter oversteer issues on stock suspension and allowing for tire rotation. Going down to APEX 18" wheels also removes about -4lbs of weight per wheel against the stock BMW 1M's style 359 wheels. Conclusion: I think either staggered or square setup can work depending on how much camber is dialed in on the front and rears of the car, or if you're ok stock vs an upgraded suspension. For my purposes, 265/285 vs 275x4 doesn't seem like much of a difference. While still currently running staggered: I've countered understeer by dialing the front at -3.0 camber and 0 toe, and also countered snap oversteer scenarios with the rears set to -2.2 camber. The car feels incredible well-balanced right now. I've been contemplating the recommended 18" square setup, but at this time I don't think it's necessary to mess with the car's balance but instead maybe get better tires which will provide overall better grip of the road, i.e.: Bridgestone RE71s. I might be mistaken but I think that 275 square (the setup I run) tends to make the car more neutral by reducing understeer and improving turn-in. This is in conjunction with camber plates. It's easier to rotate the car but issues of putting down power in the rear (read: oversteer) are still present. (I think the only way to fix THAT problem is to stuff as much rubber in the rear as possible ... IIRC some of gotten as big as a 315 in the back??) However I have found that being able to rotate the tires on all 4 corners based on wear patterns greatly increases overall tire longevity.

As I mentioned above, I'm currently running 265 in the front with -3 degrees of camber and it already has reduced understeer. I don't think I'll achieve any further improved balance by going from 265->275 in front, and from my 285->275 in rear. 4lbs per wheel weight reduction and the option to rotate tires seems to be what I'm missing out on. |

I assume those large camber numbers are courtesy of plates, etc. I know I can't get beyond -2° in the stock/OEM settings.

I've been driving with -3.0 camber in the front for over a year now, with long weekend trips of 6-8hr round-trip drives with no compromise to uneven tire wear.

Great update to this thread!
I'll throw in my 0.02. I also have Vorschlag camber plates. I am running -2.8 with 0 toe in the front and -1.8 and slight toe in at the rear with the M3 convertible front sway bar. I have found the car to be perfectly neutral, the understeer is gone and oversteer is really easy to control. At these settings, (and here is the important point to me!) I have perfectly even front treadwear on Bridgestone RE71R's which have seen 3 autocrosses, 1 track day, 4000 street miles and are probably just over 1/2 way through their lifespan. In the rear, I am wearing in the inner a little more, so I would not want more camber there. It looks like all 4 tires will be used up at the same time (I don't do many burnouts!) So . . . going to a square setup for me with this mix of use would result in oversteer. I would either have to decrease front camber, which would get me back to excessive front outer edge wear, or I would need more negative camber out back which would worsen the MINOR rear inner edge excessive wear I am seeing now. Or I could ditch the FSB. I would be able to rotate the tires, and would probably have to, but right now there is no need. I plan to install Ohlins R+T this winter, so my set-up will be pretty close to DCPLN. Speaking of DCPLN, we should meet up at Paradise or Sunrise sometime! |

^ Sounds good man. I haven't seen many 1M's since moving here in the PNW since last year!
Yeah, I just checked treadwear on my Michelin Pilot Super Sports staggered setup yesterday and they're exactly even. Will be 'upgrading' to Brigestone Potenza RE71s in the same staggered sizes by the end of next week, so I'm pretty excited. I'll report in again once I wear them in and attend a few driving events! |

You will love the Re71r tires, just don't expect them to last very long! If you go with the same sizes, expect more rubbing. The bridgestones are wider in the same size compared to Michelin. I rubbed slightly when new with 255's on the front. I set my camber plates to increase caster 1 step (the middle position) and therefore rub on the rear passenger fender liner where there is a small bulge on that side only.
