I am looking for a convertible in the $30K-$35K price range, which I am hoping is where the 128 would fall (and hopefully in the low $30K range). I would like a 135 convertible but I have a feeling it will be much more than $35K, most likely around $40K.

I'm probably going for the 128i Cabrio assuming the base MSRP will be $48k - $50K Cdn.
OTOH, if the 135i Cabrio MSRPs for LT $55K - then I'll definitely upgrade.:headbang: |

I doubt that efficient dynamics shot above is of a Sport-package-equipped 128i - the tires look far too high profile and the wheels too small.
I'm leaning towards the 128 with the Sport package. I don't like the tacked-on "extra" spoiler on the back of the 135, want lighter weight, and as the 128 is going to be slightly sub-6 second anyway that is plenty fast enough for me. I already find myself getting too fast too quickly in my current car with its 8 second 0-60. Jay Leno once wrote about the frustration and eventual boredom inherent in driving cars with hyper levels of performance on public roads (and he should know); you can never get them anywhere close to their limits before you are in license-losing territory, so you either completely miss the enjoyment of exploiting their potential or you drive in paranoid/dangerous mode. Of course if you can track the car regularly or have somewhere nearby where you can safely drive at 9/10ths, great, but if you live in a large urban area like I do that's pretty unlikely... |

The looks of the 128i aren't appealing to me, though I'm sure its lighter weight will still make it a fun car to drive. If I don't fit in a 135i, will have to figure out something else to get next year, be it a used BMW or a completely different brand *gasp*

Estimated price diff between Coupe & Cab
Quote:
The MSRP on the 328i Coupe is $43,600 Cdn and $56,300 for the 328i Cabrio for a price diff of $13K The MSRP on the 335i Coupe is $51,600 Cdn and $66,300 for the 335i Cabrio for a diff of $14,700. So, I'm guessing an approx $9K -$10K diff between the 128i Coupe & Cabrio. I'm also thinking the 128i Coupe will come in at approx $6K less than the 328i Coupe for a estimated MSRP of approx $37.5K. That would put the 128i Cabrio in the $47K MSRP range. I'm O.K. with that. If it's over $50K I'd take a good look at the upcoming Audi A3 quattro Cabriolet and even the next gen Z4 (or even the MB SLK 280). |

The semi-consensus over on the CDN pricing thread is about $35k for the 128 coupe - we are assuming that this model compares more to the sedans than the coupes (it looks like a 2 door sedan after all) so that will put it at the price of the 323 sedan... less size, but bigger engine.

I meant for the US Market. Sorry. Germany never had the ZHP, but could always order the M pieces. You guys even get Individual (I'm jealous).

Any specs (0-60, etc.) for the 128i (aside from hp/torque)? It seems as if the brochures and bulk of the media information available on the internet is for the 135i... strange when considering the 128i will most likely account for the bulk of US sales. Is the 128i so much uglier than the 135 that BMW is keeping it under wraps? Any other confirmed pictures of an undisguised 128i?

More seriously, BMW does sometimes differentiate between the Canadian and US markets - for example, we have an additional model available here: the 323i, which is priced several thousand lower than the 325i but drops 30hp - a more "euro" configuration.

The 128i fits my budget and needs perfectly. I currently have a 2005 MINI Cooper S with 190HP, so the 128i will be a nice upgrade and a great track car. It seems the closest to the 2002. I can't wait to see official pricing and the build configurator on the BMW website!
I also plan to do Euro delivery on this car. What are the best weather months to lap the Ring, so I can plan for a good delivery time? |
