135i Oil/Filter Change video

Very nice video. Im sad to say ive never actually seen someone change oil on a car before. seeing its easier then i thought i might change the oil myself every 3 or 5k miles and just take it to bmw for the routine 15k.

Yes.

The price on Centernet is $17.75, but that's probably dealer cost. I forget what I paid for mine, but I can guarantee it's a lot cheaper than a new filter cap.

You'll need a 27mm socket, too.

If someone is up to it can you make a complete list of everything a total beginer like myself will need to do an oil change at home.
From the video I got:
7 quarts of bmw synthetic oil
Oil filter
Oil catch pan
Oil filter pliers
17mm wrench

You'll need either a jack with a couple jack stands (safety), or a couple ramps. Next you'll need some rags and some gloves for your hands. And you'll need a funnel for your oil when pouring into the engine.

No, it does not have to be bmw specific oil. I believe the owners manual also recommends Mobil 1 and Castro Synthetic.

shouldn't be an issue, I believe Mobil 1 says is compatible with all conventional and synthetic oils on the market.

I have just bought a proper neoprene jack pad from Seally Tools in the UK. Hopefully this will do the job.

BTW, I also had hardly any clearence between the jack and the jack cup on the car when I first attempted a lift!.

Yes, I ended up adding a full 7 qts. First I put in 6 qts, let it idle, checked the electronic dipstick (it said full), then I added one more qt for a total of 7.
Those are not gardening gloves, its actually an old flight glove I had. USAF-Above All:headbang:

Just to double-check: is the oil filter same as for a 335i? I can't find the 135i listed on BMW parts e-sites yet.

Its the same motor as the 335i, so I would assume its the same part #. I would call a BMW service dept. and check the price for filters for a 335i and a 135i and ask if they show the same part number.

All N5x gasoline engines use the same oil filter.
