BMS or Helene Performance Air Intake?

I wonder why BMW cannot figure that out. They could save so much money per car by not engineering an air box and just slamming in an open cone on a tube.

Because 99.9% of people who buy BMW cars would freak out if they heard the noise generated by the BMS filter hahaha.

Cars designed for the general population did not have optimal performance in mind when they were designed. Car manufacturers are more concerned with delivering a product that will be purchased by the masses.

its all about keeping noise down for BMW the majority of people do not want to her intake noise or turbo spoil.

as far as intakes go duel cone filters all the way. and heat soak all I got to say to that is

Don't get your hopes up yet. As of now, BMW has no plans for an intake for the 135.

Then they shouldn't buy a 2xTurbo car as they most likely do not realize what they are getting into.

What if BMW did a targeted market vehicle? I guess that would be called the M-1? or 135 Tii?

like said earlier sound is one reason and also the fact that without an air box the filter gets dirty WAY too quick.

Additionally, in regards to power loss from heat. The slight (and I use that relatively) increase in intake temp is over compensated by the increase in volume. It comes down to how dense the oxygen is. Both colder and more volume increase the density. However, since the turbos heat the air "slightly" (ha) warmer than the original intake temp, it is a moot point since it is the point of the IC to cool the air back down. Thus the air ends up not being that much warmer and is over compensated by the increase in volume.

I just ordered the BMS however I thought I seen a few post with members installing and reviewing the Helene filter.. can you guys update us with your take? The BMS owners seem to be the ones giving their feed back...or heck if we have any ballers whose willing to get both and help us out here haha..

I would give the BMS a try or hold out for the Riss Racing intake. It may flow better, but I can not tell any difference with the Helene filter.

Anyone have experience with the Logic HVI intake? Looks like a good setup if you reroute the air intake snorkel towards the filter. The 335i guys are running this intake and using the 328i snorkel to funnel the air towards the filter instead of using the stock 335 snorkel which funnels the air to the rear of the engine. I'm pretty sure once my 135 comes in, I'll be picking up one of these and making a heat shield for it, and possibly seeing if a 128i snorkel would fit to funnel the air towards it. What do you guys think?

then what is that airbox they have sitting in the parts department at BMW N. Scottsdale that says "BMW Performance" on the carbon fibre inlay?

I was wondering about this too. They are two different things. It turns out this "cold air package" is just a set of ducts which enhances airflow to the brakes. It is only compatible with the tii aerodynamic front bumper. http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...4&postcount=15

I asked the original question in this thread!

I went for the BMS and installed it 2 days after getting my car.

I didn't buy it for performance, but for the great noise that it makes sucking in air!

I really don't think that the intake provides and performance / mechanical benefits over stock, and to be fair it's going to be a pain to remove and clean every 5k-10k miles.

But, the noise is so good that it's staying until I find a better option e.g. BMW Performance CAI (if it comes out) or the Riss Racing intake if it provides the same or better noise.

It really is fantastic for the money and was a simple decision when I found out that the Helene does not enhance the noise.

4/5 for me, only let down by the cleaning....

I have not installed my BMS yet because I do no have my 135 yet but why would you say cleaning the filter is going to be a pain? It seems like you could just remove the clamps on each side of the filter where they go into the black cylinders it comes with and the filter should pop out. Is it a really tight fit and this is not an option?

errr, you are probably correct and I am just being stoopid!

It wasn't the easiest to install - not difficult, but it was a pain to get the clearance from the engine.

I just can't be bothered really, lazy! But I will do it after 5-10k depending how dirty it is.
