It's a fully reversible process that doesn't throw any codes. I doubt they'll ever even look at the clutch hose unless you're taking the car in specifically for clutch-related reason (and if you do, you could always replace the stock CDV!).

Soft, long travel, PIA with the CDV in. It's like they designed it for weak legged people.
Remove the CDV, and it's not too bad. It's such a great car overall that the less than perfect clutch becomes moot. |

Coming from an '06 Cooper S, I find the 135's clutch to be very similar in every respect, from ease of operation to take-up pressure. You can feel that you're engaging a much larger fly wheel than on the MINI, but that's about it. I've not experienced any difficulties shifting from any gear to any other gear during normal driving or spirited driving. Shifter feel was not quite what I expected. It's tighter than the MINI, but more rubbery than I would truly like. If I could pick my shifter feel, my favorites are the Boxster and the S2000.

this is my first manual car so I don't know what to compare it to. However, and I don't know if this has been discussed or not, but can the clutch hold up to chipped power?

This is a s-t-r-o-n-g clutch. BMW clutches typically last 150-175k if not continualy slipped. It's a tad lighter than my E36 M3 clutch but that makes it easier in traffic.

Clutch is very soft compared to all of the cars I've driven (most didn't have the original clutch, so not really a fair comparison). The friction point is a bit higher than I'm used to, and that combined with the slightly long shift throw is making my shifts a bit slower than I'd like (I start easing off the clutch much too early in the travel).
With that said, the clutch has never once felt like it was slipping, so I see no reason for a stronger/heavier clutch with the stock power. I'm sure I'll appreciate the lighter feel in stop and go traffic. The hill assist is also really cool, never had a car with that. |

Did you buy a CDV or did you mod your stock CDV? Thanks ahead of time. Jeff. |
