IMO it boils down to if you need the extra space of the SS over something like a 2!d gen CTSV. If you can.make the V2 work, it's just better lol.

I know the V2 has many things better than the SS but the stick shift is a must for me.

V2 has a stick shift. V3 didn't. Hell you could even get a V2 stick shift wagon.

CTS-V with a stick! Get one a few years older and ride...

That's a hard pass for me. No Hellcat consideration?

I bought one when they were "giving them away". Had zero issues with the car, sold it when it had 60k miles on it. I sold it during the covid spike for the same amount I bought it for when new so I figured I had to do it. Honestly would have never got rid of it if the styling was more aggressive and the inside didn't feel so cheap. Was a blast to drive and the exhaust note was great when you got on it. I believe the engine and tranny are solid but I would be concerned about the suspension, believe it is the magnetic ride and I would imagine is very expensive to fix/replace.

Mag ride shocks have a service life well over 150k miles. Unfortunately, Chevy dealers don't know that, and treat them like normal shocks where a little seepage is cause for replacement. The mag shocks are however designed to seep, it's totally normal and not a cause for replacement.

They're not cheap by GM standards, but they're cheap vs BMW parts. $800 a corner is the worst I've seen them listed. My non magnetic X5 shocks are $1200. The Vette owners complain about their cost all the time though.

I owned one for about 5 years and put a bunch of miles on it. I had the auto and even that was a giant pain in the ass to find, there were no manuals to be had within a thousand miles of it at that time. I also had to settle on black.

It was a big comfy sport sedan that was easy to put a bunch of miles on. Lots of space for folks in the front or back, big trunk, and decently quiet on the road.

The stock exhaust on my 2015 was weak, I think 2016 had a valved exhaust that sounded better. I put a set of Kooks headers on and that solved that issue.

It's good you want the manual, the automatic is not good at all. I can't stand GM's 6 speed auto that they used forever.

The infotainment was outdated when the car came out. It has enough creature comforts with the HUD, heated, and ventilated seats (although a heated steering wheel would have been nice). No android auto or apple car play and I'm not sure there's much in the aftermarket to fix that.

The suspension was very comfortable with magnetic ride control. My big gripe in this department is that it's just a big car. If you have experience with big sedans like that it's probably fine, but I went from an E90 335i to a very brief stint in a 6th gen Camaro, and then the SS. It would have been a lot more fun of a car in a smaller package.

Sourcing parts for this car is going to be a challenge. Need a fender? That sucks, you're probably screwed. You'll have to import one from a junked car in Australia and you'll pay the penalty.

I also sold mine in the COVID spike and actually made a few dollars on it. I don't think the car is worth the premium it commands today but it's by no means a bad vehicle.

Yeah it's properly big, remember this is effectively the top selling vehicle in Australia for 25 years because you can transport a family of 5. They sold a LOT of wagons too. It's a legit 5 seater, closer to an Impala interior wise than a Malibu.

As I recall, when the original G8 came out here it was effectively the same size as a 7 series (probably short wheelbase).

Man still a soft spot for me. The first car I ever ordered new and "specced" to my liking, (only options were, auto/manual, full size spare and sunroof) No sunroof, spare, Magnetic gray metallic final year 2017. Waited 6 months and ended up getting delievered during 25% GM Sale, 39k out the door.

Sold my cammed, supercharged G8 GT to put the money down for the SS.

These cars used to represent incredible bargains as used cars given the meaty spec sheet (including the Pontiac GXP here as well), but the pricing on these since COVID has just gone flat out insane. I've noticed that the asking prices are now similar to Lexus IS F levels and good specimens are at GS F levels now too...just wild.

To be fair they're a lot larger than the ISF, and they're faster than either Lexus F. And arguably more reliable too.

But yeah, they just don't make manual V8 sedans anymore. Look at the absurd prices people pay for E39 M5s now. It's nuts.

Cadillac offers the CT5-V Blackwing (supercharged V8) in a manual, and the first two generations of the CTS-V were offered with a manual.

My son in law has one and it's incredible. I think the build quality is very good compared to GM North American products. The power was great stock.

He's put a stroker V8 in it so it's a tad rowdy for my taste now, but if I was making good money when I was 30 I would have done the same.

Shhh, don't let them know that. Otherwise they'll go insane in price like E39s.

My boss has a manual CTS-V Blackwing, he says it's beyond awesome.
