It doesn't matter which one we'll choose... we aren't the one's buying it.
But, if you're considering used and like the smaller size there are a number of other options, a used Cayman for example. |

I'd stay away from any 2007 335i's. Mine has never been trouble free - in fact, it's in service today (again!) for the wastegate rattle.
Get the 128i, smaller, nimbler, better warranty and I'd be willing to bet more reliable. If you want to go new, then I'd say 2009 135i should be safe. I hope.

I was deciding between an 07 CPO 335i Coupe and a new 08 135i Vert. I took the 135i Vert. Much more fun to drive. The reason why most people here are suggesting the 335i over the 128i is the engine. BIG DIFFERENCE.

software introduced to cars that have gone for service since march 08 that introduces turbo lag at low rpms through changing wastegate duty cycle. the software also introduces anti-tuning measures that limit how much torque the car can produce without blowing your warranty.

I currently own a 335 and am switching to a 135 for the size. I would not switch to a 128 though. If I had to make a choice opf 128 or 335, 335 hands down. 135 or 335, 135 hands down.

Knowing myself, I would do the 128i and be thinking about the 335i all the time. Find a way to do the 135i. Owning a BMW out of warranty can be a very pricey and scary thing.

I have to agree with mega on this one!!! i think u guys need to chill out a bit with the whole twin turbo vs n/a straight six! obviously the 335 wins hands down on performance!!
I drove my brothers E90 330i home one day from the garage. i would take my 125 over it ANY DAY!!!! for one the clutch and accelerator felt so unsensitive compared to the 1'er. I think this is because the 3-series has been aimed at luxury even with the sports pack! Secondly the exhaust note!!! the 3-series is SO quiet! and when hooning the car its not that fun!!! u wanna hear the straight six screaming!!! On the way home i was driving along a double lane road and one half of the road was closed off because they were redoing the paint on the roads! the car feels so much heavier when turning! i thought i was in a tank :eyebulge: Basically it depends on what the buyer wants! but in my opinion new car > old car!!! now i know im one of the younger members on the board but i think driving is about more than how fast you can go! its the feel of the car, and how it inspires you to drive it on the edge!! Nimble and fun > heavy but fast!

Because of the mileage, I'd go with the 128, assuming that you're more or less equally happy with either. You really should test-drive the 335 against a 128i with sport package back to back, for an extended period (say at least 30 minutes) over roads you'd typically drive, assuming this is going to be a daily driver.
I do like how the 335i coupes look...but almost 30k miles in what may have been less than 2 years on the road (have you Carfax'd the 335?) is just too much. It sounds like the 335i was ridden hard and put away wet. |

Some of the newer used cars are for BMW executives that turn in the car in after driving them a lot for the first year. I would find out if that is the case. It would probably mean it was mostly highway miles. I think the main thing is to find out the car's history.
I would probably go with the 335i if it was still under the maintenance warranty. However, I can understand wanting a new car with 0 miles on it, too. |

Me too, however, he's comparing a 128i to a 335i sedan. Some of these people must be assuming he's talking about a 335i coupe...I cant think of any other reason why they'd choose a car with 30k miles on it vs a new one. :iono:

Some will never buy the "small engine" even if the small engine was 600hp. Others won't touch anything without turbos. A few more won't touch the 128i because of badge snobbery. You may even find a few that swear the 335 is the best car ever made and refuse to buy anything else. Decisions like those are really no more irrational than any of the other decisions you made when you decided to buy a BMW instead of a used old p.o.s. |

I wouldn't have bought the 335 even if it was half the price. Not that they aren't nice cars, I just fell in love with the 1ers looks, and like new cars.
