Cashmere Silver will show the least dirt. We own a Mercedes in a very similar color, which i drive to work daily. Gets a wash every 2 or 3 months. It sure isnt clean inbetween, but it hardly shows. Unfortunately, most ppl dont rate cashmere an attractive (cause non sportive) color. It shines lovely in rising / setting sunlight, though.

Garage List
All bright, light or dark solid colours or noticably dirtier, ie. Black & white. All greys, earthtone or neutral, soft, pale colours hide dirt better.

Silver doesn't show dirt - it doesn't show up in rain either.

I have a mystique blue e46 (although not for long ), and surprisingly it doesn't show up dirt much either, while my wife's quartz blue 120d, which is really like a silver grey shows more dirt than mine.

+1 re Cashmere Silver, especially with the Moonlight top. And BMW red looks great after a wash, but in between is another story.

+2, from a maintenance and longevity perspective, any of the light metallic colors are the best choice. Tiag is probably the best, with Cashmere and BWM right there.

My BWM car is very easy to maintain, almost as easy as my previous silver GTO. I still have to wash this car very frequently to keep it looking good, as the exterior color choice doesn't seem to have any effect on my rims turning pitch black after 2 days

I still think it's TiAg. My car rarely ever looks dirty. It might not shine as much as it can but you still wouldn't think it's dirty even during the winter here.

Do not be lazy, wash your car. They all get dirty and as someone else stated, the wheels get dirty before the paint. A consequence of good brakes. I may be nuts, but one of the joys of owing my car is washing it and detailing it.

I'm nuts like you are and love taking care of cars, and I think that's the best reason to buy a light metallic color. Washing my car is more fun than work. Washing the GFs Obsidian Black Lexus is more work than fun, mostly because of the stress that comes with maintaining a black car with single stage paint. For some folks fun involves foam guns, grit guards, 2 mitts, mitt rinses twice per panel, leaf blowers, PC 7424s, and an arsenal of paint correction products. Those things are all part of my regimen more because of need, and the hardcore detailers wouldn't have it any other way.

But personally, I prefer a detailing regimen that's a bit less involved and worrisome, and certain colored cars more readily allow for that

I would never choose a color based on how well it can show dirt. I choose a color which I like or which dealer has. I do not wash car more frequently than once in 2 months. My concern is mostly about wheels. They get dirty really fast and very visible. So I am curious if I get wheels in black, will them resist better to dirt?

Rain washing isn't so stupid. Rain water is almost distillated, so you do not need to dry car after. However the water doesn't do work well unless you apply some detergent, so recommendation could be, if rain outside, then pour some detergent on car and drive. Do not wipe water after though.

I have a silver car, and a black 1. I love the silver because it takes a long time before it needs a wash. I love the black 1 because I get free washes at the dealer and it looks awesome.

I normally wash/wax by hand, but its nice to take to the dealer if I don't have time, or when there has been a lot of salt on the roads. I do have some light brush marks from the dealer, but nothing serious, and nothing that doesn't buff out by hand.

+3

Just washed and waxed my car this weekend and brought it in to the dealership to get the PF suspension installed and told them not to wash it. They tagged it as such.

All cars benefit from regular paint protection, and at least weekly hand washes with a microfiber mitt and good quality car wash product. Red is one color that needs regular treatments or it starts to turn grey.
+1!

Wash your damn car.

How can you have a car you love and not wash, wax, and maintain it... o_0. Make time, 'nuff said.
