no sunroof in the vid....carbon roof? I would think so...

Anyway, sounds good, wouldn't mind another high revving engine out of the M division but ~350hp in a 1er isn't anything to fuss over

Engine sounds horrible for an M car. A low-revving inline-6 engine. Nothing motorsports about it whatsoever.

When the driver proudly says "just listen to it" and revs it to redline, you can see from Chris Harris' puzzled expressions that he was very underwhelmed by the engine.

Over 6000 rpm, my 330 CI ZHP sounds far more high strung (it could be due to the higher compression and faster piston speeds).

It's mostly due to not having the obstruction of two turbochargers in the exhaust. Is the stroke in the 330 really that much shorter than in the 135i?

He seems to say that they're still not done with the exhaust sound, if I heard him right. It sounds like it's fairly quick, assuming gear ratios are the same, especially given he's been doing multiple hot laps in heat.

8:07 would be a very quick NRing time for that car... The 987.2 Cayman w/ PDK does 8:06, and the M6 does 8:07. Hell, the E92 M3 only does 8:05. That'd confirm my thoughts about the 1 MC being faster around most tracks. If you can get within 2 seconds of a more powerful car on the NRing, you can probably beat it on a shorter track, where there isn't as much time spent at 120+ MPH.

VERY impressive, if that's accurate.

Did you guys see the thickness of the steering wheel. I thought my ZHP's steering was thick.

The engine sound is everything. Exhaust is a very small part of it.

Definitely a lot faster piston speed than this is my guess. It must be due to the turbo engine and usage of low compression pistons.

Although, my car's piston speed is not nearly as fast as that of the E46 M3, but the stroke was much shorter than what seems to be for this 1-M.

An E46 M3's piston speed @8000 rpm was 4773.33 ft/min while my 330 CI ZHP with a stroke of 3.53 inches at the rev cut off of 7100 rpm is doing ~ 4200 ft/min.

An exhaust sound can easily be fixed with a different exhaust, but an engine sound can almost never be fixed unless the internals are modified heavily.

car looks great and sounds good too, not like other cars that have mufflers to make up for the sound while, M cars use there engines with high revs to make the real sound. Im hoping it comes with a carbon roof. I really really believe there holding back on alot of things from the body stand point and the interior, especially if they know reporters are going to be taking pictures and video. Otherwise what would be the point to suprise us when it comes out.

Like for an example im sure the sound will get a 10% increase.
option carbon roof
option DCT, which i would rather go with a 6 speed
and many others things to come

No worries. I'm sure they're holding back too. The chrome trim around the windows have to go, an M hood will be there, even the new L.E.D Angel eyes aren't here yet. Plenty of time. The CF Roof could be there. We just can't see it.

Just some Nürburgring times of M3s:

7:50 --- 157.79 km/h - BMW E46 M3 CSL, 360 PS/1421 kg (sport auto 08/03)
8:05 --- 152.91 km/h - BMW M3, 420 PS/1608 kg (sport auto 12/07)
8:07 --- 1 series M (speculation)
8:22 --- 147.75 km/h - BMW M3 E46, 343 PS/1584 kg (sport auto 12/00)
8:36 --- 143.59 km/h - BMW E36 M3 EVO, 321 PS

No need to mention that the driver can easily make a difference But anyway it gives an idea ...

Sounds good. However I was thinking, everywhere it states that this is the base N54 with a different tune, and other parts added. So if this means it's the same turbos, right? The stock N54 in135i/335i was able to gain alot of power because there was not much boost stock on the motor. But with 1 M Coupe, having the same N54 turbos considreing their size and efficiency limits, I just wonder how much more this car can be pushed.

None the less, having an LSD by itself is worth it.

HAHAHA!!! Fantastic video...Harris' facial expressions are great. He feels so uncomfortable being driven around as opposed to driving, on camera.

This is my favorite video by far of the 1M.

And here's a video of turbo 6 engine note done right. Yea yea I know it has 0.8L more and is a V6.

Chris is a legend. True enthusiast.

Have been offered the opportunity of first spot at my dealer with a small deposit.

Should I go for it or hold off?

All feedback welcome!

Thanks,

Mark.

Mmm I am listening to this on a laptop so that might affect it, but to me it sounds very similar to a regular N54 from inside the car. Not particularly Motorsporty.

The GTR on the other hand actually sounds very very good for a turbo 6!

I'm probably gonna get attacked...

but didn't the revised WRX STI get 7:55? I know there was rollcage in there, but come on...BMW M3 (420) only gets 8 minutes on the ring?

I love the Jet Black w/ chrome look. I'm sure the shadowline trim is only very popular in the US.... but I agree, they have a lot of cosmetics to finish up.

Better start saving now for one of those
