Segler talks about low weight and throttle response.
If this thing weight above 1400kg than it s all a bunch of marketing b.llsh.t. talk overthere. The car looks is fantastic. |

History of the 1M...
~First there were discussions that there would be a TTi or an 135is version. ~ once the 1M name was confirmed the arguing started: ~ it was argued that if it didn't have quad exhaust it wouldn't be a real M. ~ it was argued that it wouldn't have a LSD, therefore it wouldn't be a real M. ~it was argued that it wasn't NA so it was not a real M. ~Now it has been verified that it is called 1M, that is will come with quad exhaust, that is will have a LSD and that it will have an inline 6 (with turbo's?) and will be a M car. Now the boards are filling up with the manual versus DCT wars. Who cares. If it comes with a manual then manual drivers will be in heaven and if they also offer it in a DCT then everyone will be happy. let's enjoy the fact that BMW made the car and we are all excited to see what it will drive like. I for one cant wait. I swore I wouldn't buy one but if it's base is in the mid 40's I'm in. By the way, I found a PIC of the 1M car, fully uncovered.

Here are my pics of the diff and car. Just got back from Ofest, it was a blast Road America was a lot of fun, and I had to give the point by to a few 135i. Those turbos were more than the E36 M3 could handle.

I am going to give you a clue.... The 1M powertrain is a Hybrid.
And when I mean Hybrid do not think of the current meaning of "Hybrid" - ie Alternative power , Electricity etc.... and use the original meaning of hybrid. " When Two seperate entities become one". Remember BMW evaluate every idea to determine what is the solution? |

Speaking of the 1M's power plant... Auto Motor und Sport ran a little burb in thier latest issue. AMundS reports that the engine will be a SINGLE (ein) turbo 3.0L six with around 350 PS (DIN).
They also say that the car will debut before the end of this year with German sales starting in the Spring of 2011. JOY! |

Anyway the info we've reported on BF is 100% accurate. No manual (I mentioned this on BF and here before Scott's confirmation) and I am 99.9% sure the N54 based. Why? I'll have a post up on BF in a few hours explaining it all. But the thing you have to remember is none of the info is made up. It would never go on the BimmerFile if it was. I totally respect that you are challenging the statements but I will just add that consider our track record. I think it's generally pretty solid. |

I am loving that color and am thinking it might be nice to park that next to my Henna Red E30 M3. I must admit that I am a little torn between my decision for my next car. There is a big part of me that wants an M3 sedan with an IND CF roof. Can't wait to see how this 1M unfolds...

Also, if you notice that Scott gave a long winded answer, instead of saying just, "No it won't have M-DCT." This to me suggests that there is a large possibility that if will not, but maybe judging by the outcry or reaction it "just might". I think that they will gauge by the reaction on the forums and may change a few things. If they keep the MT, chances are it's because of the encroachment on the M3 and a rush job. All I know, is they better give the carbonfiber roof as a option... |

Seems to make sense. The only other major difference would be valvetronic fuel injection. If it had that it would be N55 based, so it probably won't have that.

He said a Hybrid, So wouldn't that lead you to believe that its a N54 with a single turbo or a N55 with a twin turbo?

Ah I wish it were that simple! It's quite frustrating to not just put up definitive headlines but there are times (like now) that we can't for one reason or another. Think of it this way... there have been times in the past that we knew something but simply couldn't report it as definitive fact. I'm not saying this is one of those times. But I'm not saying it isn't. |

A poll showing what? If a person had the option of ordering or selecting an M-DCT (M Dual Clutch Transmission), no matter the cost, would they select that as their transmission of choice?

I think the reason why we won't see a DTC slush box is bc of the added complexity of the M// specs features. Such as launch control and more shift modes & speed adjustments.
Plus BMW would have to fully test all those features with DCT and ABS systems. I think this would add too much R&D time to that option. I do think they will offer it before we see the current 1M be replaced by the F20 version. |
