My car has passed its 5th year, yet I haven't been asked by the DMV to have it smogged (not that I'm complaining)... Is this a new rule that I'm unaware of?

It starts 6 years from your model year, and then it's every other year.

For me: MY2011 - start smog testing 2017, then test again every odd number year.

For you: MY2012 - start smog testing 2018, then test again every even number year.

The above is for original owners in California. I believe it's different if the car is sold again (especially outside of CA), and I know the rules vary from state to state.

Dealer said as they were testing it after water pump & thermostat replacement, "Footwell Module" (FRM?) went out.
Fortunately it's a know problem so they're replacing that under warranty.

Just be happy it's under warranty and look for signs of water!

Just did the same but in carbon fiber. Curious to see how they fit. Got mine for $144 shipped from China. Just installed the carbon rear diffuser from the same seller as the spoiler. Pretty good fit with that so I'm hopeful the spoiler will be the same.

Here's the link to the seller I got mine from. I gave them permission to use my pics for their auction lol. Guess it's even cheaper now

https://www.ebay.com/itm/322153452625

Almost two years later and it still looks perfect imo

Edit: nvm, the seller I bought from is called sky.ultra, the one in the link stole their pics I guess

I was looking for Perf-style diffusers as well, but they are all in CF. And I don't want any CF bits on the car. I would have to repaint it to gloss black.

Finally got my CF spoiler from China. I must say. For the $275 CAD I paid for this, It looks exactly if not better then the BMW one (which they wanted $800+ CAD for). I'm very impressed! I'll have to get some pictures after my lab test is done today.

What do you guys use to secure it to the car? I've seen BetaLink talked about and the 3M acrylic double sided tape used with another product that helps with adhesion I believe it's called promoter or something.

I personally never put any parts/mods on any car that isn't a direct bolt on= hate making something fit-work with tape screws etc. I will probably get a few cf ad ons from BMW. expensive yes but made for the car. Just an opinion nothing more.

OEM trunk spoilers need double sided tape too?

OE factory spoiler is betalink'd which is apparently a PITA to remove. IIRC, BMW instructions for the CF spoiler mention using a 3M double tape so it should work just fine. http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=889437

Lots of stuff on your car is just taped there. The BMW spoiler is taped on too.

If I was going to get a spoiler (which I probably never will) I think I'd go the beta link route because it seems more secure and permanent. The double sided tape holding what already appears to be a flimsy spoiler just looks way too easy for some dickhead to walk by and rip it right off of your car if he wanted to. Maybe I'm wrong and I'm just being paranoid. Never actually felt one adhered by double sided tape and maybe it's more secure than I think. But it's tape!?!? lol

It happens! Betalink should be tough enough to prevent your random 'walking by' type snatch...

From March- CF spoiler got stolen tonight at west Los Angeles

The OEM one is taped on. I was thinking the same but try ripping the OEM little bump one off, it's on there good. For my application, I'm just going to use the fishing line and take it off, then clean the area and afterward use alcohol to clean both the trunk & spoiler. The 3M Acrylic tape should hold on very well. My father asked me if I got the tape yet because he wants me to over and put it on asap (Me and him both love working on cars). I'll probably use painters tape afterwards to hold it secure for a few hours, but other then that as long as both surfaces are clean, you can get great contact with just the tape. The BetaLink is kinda scary, it's a one time shot and no room for error. If you mess up, you might end up ruining the clear coat and pait trying to get it off, or break the spoiler. At least with the 3M tape, you have some wiggle room and just using a heat gun will help it bond nice.

Damn man, why you gotta post this Got me all paranoid now ahaha! But I mean, if someone really wants something, they will stop at nothing to get it. There's a machine that can read your keyfob when you lock and unlock your door, so someone could technically just steal your car without much effort if needed. I'm also in Canada, not sure how many 1ers are here tbh. I see maybe 1 a day if that. Shit, I saw my first E30 M3 today at my campus without having to go to a car meet

I was thinking of getting one a while back and talked to my service advisor and she said the original spoiler was done using betalink. Is she wrong? And yes, it does seem to be on there pretty securely with whatever method was used.
