Kenny, not a big deal but can you update my ET in the 1st post with 19 inch SF71 + PSS 225/35/19 265/30/19. I think I would have cracked an 11 if I had my 18s on that night!

30" tall dude, 30" TALL! I don't know you but maybe you don't see the point because your experience in drag racing is limited? Get out there often and you'll start to see my point :-) Our cars are shit slow at the drag strip. There are VERY FEW street cars that can run "10s or lower passes" street legally. I share your love of AMS R35 GTRs!

I wouldn't consider our cars that slow considering they are a 'luxury brand' car that is completely streetable, comfortable and we spend bugger all on them to get that quick. Most times I have been at the track, there aren't many cars quicker which run street tyres or haven't been worked a fair bit...

30" tall, fair enough. yeah under 10s is mental, but there's plenty of 10s and 11s cars i mean, more accurately (though yes, getting into the 10's is a HUGE achievement still), i mean... damn, go check out performanceforums.. their challenge was.. um... 13's for $1300 some of them got into 11's i think? they pretty much all used nos, and dodgy stuff like ebay chinese turbos with sealed wastegates.. but still haha Last edited by flinchy; 04-12-2012 at 05:59 AM.. |

I think most of us bought this car because it's a great all round daily driver, not to make it an all out drag racing machine. The appeal of the 135i for me is that the engine is brilliant and responds really well to tuning. The 135i was the first car I ever drove that pulled so hard from down low due to all the torque and I've been addicted ever since. We all know there are better cars out there to drag race but we're making the most of what we've got, it's all in good fun. The limits of this car performance wise are well known, thanks to guys like Kenny who have done the R&D and documented it along the way. For a street car and occasional weekend drag/track warrior, it's more than adequate, and in terms of luxury, comfort and features, it ticks all those boxes as well. I think it's normal to get bored after driving the same car every day for 3+ years but with all the modifications I've slowly done during this time, I love the car more than I did the day I brought it home, which says a lot |

i've never been, i don't see how this question is relevant, i'm mostly talking as a spectator.. as cool as top fuelers and the like are to watch, i'm much more interested AS A SPECTATOR to see 'cars' go fast.
heck, that question isn't even relevant to the text you quoted. |

why do you keep taking my posts entirely out of context, twisting my words to your own way? it's rather obnoxious.

Went to Motorplex last night. Best was
13.593 @104.56mph, Short: 2.417 135i Coupe DCT. Wheels/Tyres: Stock runflats Mods:None Was my first ever time on a drag strip. Only got 4 runs as it was a 45 minute wait in between runs. Struggled with launching as it would either spin or have terrible axle tramp. Didn't get a chance to try launch control as it wouldn't engage. Best result was to put it in DTC mode, foot on brake and quickly pump the throttle to try and get the revs up a little. Just flooring it off the line had the rear end bouncing up and down horribly. Trying to feather the throttle in 1st to control wheel spin ended up in a 14.2. I think best place to shift was around 6200rpm, but I really needed more runs to figure these things out. |

Launching is definitely a challenge. I think launch control would just spin as it's like dumping the clutch and the DCT doesn't let you load up on the brake.
My best short time was 2.2 which was with Traction Control fully off and just flooring it off idle. But I revved it off to the redline and was slower overall. Needed more runs to tweak things. Run flats are going. I have a set of Michelin PSS waiting in my work store room but not the rims yet. Although I am getting 19s so not the best performance option. |

As a comparison, I ran a Michelin PSS 225/35/19 and 265/30/19 at the drags and my 60ft were consistently slower than when I ran 225/40/18 and 255/35/18. I did manage a PB of 12.1** on 19's but I'm confident I would have run a 11.*** if I ran on 18's. I have not gone back since though. I think you will see an improvement switching to non-rft's but the lower profile may negate its benefits. I spun all the way through 1st gear on every run on 19s, but with your power it should not be an issue. |

Drag racing is all about the launch, being able to modulate clutch/throttle to get the optimum wheelspin out of the hole (for a MT) and hence the best short time you can. Hopefully you enjoyed it enough to want to have another crack at it!

Will probably have another crack at it when it opens again in September.
DCT makes launching challenging but I'm up to the challenge. |
