imo, i think it is a carbon fiber diffuser because if it were a regular 'matte' plastic it would not reflect of course.
for it to reflect like that it would have to be the 'gloss black' plastic that bmw is currently using as diffusers. which it's not. i clearly see a 'cf weave' pattern that shows curvature and has absolutely no resemblance to the heat shield. basically, the reflection does not depict the same pattern as the heat shield. Just a thought - the "minor change" to the headlights could be some sort of LCD thing like they did to the E9x LCIs recently. I seriously doubt they're going to radically alter the headlight design at this point.

You are wrong. I think these two pictures speak for themselves.

Although I was starting to think that maybe it wasn't cf after all, I actually think the above two pictures disprove the point you're trying to make.
Looks like overexposure on the cf, and a standard illumination on the aluminium. Overexposure over a corner always looks bright like that, on any surface. Also look at the weave pattern itself in the negative - they're different, not the same piece of material at all. Similar because of the diamond shame, that's all.

Same car, different angle. Look at the right side also. It clearly shows plastic and both sides show heat shields not CF. Sorry, I was hoping CF also. Maybe it will show up later!

The real reason is that BMW doesn't consider this car worthy of the moniker. Forget the past M1, it's aleady an antique. BMW isn't about to call this car an M1 because it would really suggest a long term commitment to the model which BMW isn't planning. This is a quick and dirty tweak to get a few more bucks out of E82 platform before the end of the cycle. If they called this an M1 it would imply it has the brand status (and long-term development commitments) of the M3, M5 and M6. I wish that weren't the case, but that's business.

http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...&postcount=617 What makes more sense, a carbon fiber heat shield on a quickly made car or the aluminum heat shield that's on every other BMW. Give it up already, the picture in post 617 makes it incredibly obvious. |

although i would love to see carbon fiber, i highly doubt they will have it on this "entry level" M car. maybe as an option though. that would be cool

I am now convinced it is not carbon fiber, just a metallic mesh heat shield.

Unfortunately, the fly had to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement before being allowed that close to the prototype and will be unavailable for interview
