2012 135i n55
-failed at 79k miles -replacement cost around $1200cdn for parts and labor for both the water pump and thermostat -no symptoms before it happened, was driving fine one day and failed the next day and I had to limp it home and to the garage, driving like half a mile then shutting it off as temps climbed for 10 minutes and repeating till my destination |

Hello!
Hello, I'm a new member.
The water pump on my 2012 135i M-Sport failed 2/17/20 at 45,768 miles. I had the BMW Gold Warranty when it failed. It only covered the water pump and not the thermostat. It'll be interesting to see how long the thermostat lasts! BTW, the car went into limp mode directly in front of the dealer. |

I was merely pointing out that the BMW Gold Warranty doesn't do any proactive repairs or maintenance like most owners would do.
My guess is they just replaced the WP and took the car for a run to see if the oil temperature was OK. After the repair, I did a scan and checked the coolant temperature to see if it was OK. I also suspect the thermostat won't need replacing anytime soon. |

...And I have no idea if my 128i with 179k miles has its original water pump. I haven't seen any records of it from the previous owner but I have no clue if the FIRST owner did anything. I really should just replace it anyway..

My 2011 135i WP failed fall of 2020 at 59K. First overheat and limp mode on the freeway. Waited 20 minutes and drove off, saw coolant in engine bay seemingly from expansion tank and/or cap. Drove home 50 miles no problem. I suspected the WP but thought this fail would be absolute and not intermittent. Code pointed to failed pump. I went ahead and replaced the expansion tank, WP and tsat.

Chiming in to say I'm going on 63k with my 1 that I've had for a week. Under close inspection I can see coolant seeping out and around the water pump area, so within a month or three (before winter) I'll change it and alllllll the related tstat and plumbing parts.

I had the water pump & thermostat replaced this week (128i, 143,000km/89,000 mi). No sign of it failing. So now I'll never know if it would've lasted another 5k or another 50,000k.

2008 135i convertible auto, 63k miles, water pump failed last week. Shop is replacing the water pump, thermostat, coolant hose, coolant, and hood struts (unrelated but they fail on hot days) for $1,245.
