Tut4u2, great write up on this conversion! I am on a quest to do the same but still on the ground collecting info and mapping out my best path forward. I currently have an e92 M3 with the DCT, so I will be going the 6 speed route.
Is there any wiring harness kit/ splicing instructions out there that will allow me to keep the e82 harness and dash? I would like to swap in the engine (ECU,CAS, etc.), trans and suspension (including EDC) form the e92 and spice in the e92 relevant wiring only and not having to pull the e82 harness/dash and replacing. I saw your note that swapping the complete harness is the way to go but was wondering if there is any good info out there on the harness splicing. Thanks. |

Are you confident that the aux vacuum pump can be coded out? Any info on that? Since my car is just a track car I want to just eliminate it but I haven't found any info on coding it/the sensor out. |

It probably will fit behind the 135 fenders but it'll be a pain. I think I'm going to relocate it to the back right compartment in the trunk area and pack some open cell foam around it. I'll put another check valve at the pump so the line will remain at vacuum, should work fine. That area is wide open, and it'll move some weight to the rear which is always welcome. |

I sorta get the NA appeal of the s65, sure is a sweet motor, but I'd really love to see an s55 swap into an e82. One of the most potent and easily modded six cylinders ever produced. Guys are running 9's on stock blocks.

Plus, myself and I think most of the others that have done this care about getting around a track quickly, not down a track quickly. The stock turbo 6 can be made to make big power way easier than swapping in an S55. The S65 offers many advantages for track day people like super linear power delivery, no major heat issues, lower center of gravity, etc. |

At the end of the day its a matter of preference and your driving style. That's one of the beautiful things about this hobby: two people can take the same car/platform, and go two completely different routes for the same purpose. |

I've been following your auction on BaT https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...n-from-e9x-m3/, it'll be interesting to see where it ends up.

I've finally just about finished my wiring and now have to do the coding. Not sure if you'll have much advice since I'm deleting basically everything non essential in my car, so my VO list will be like four lines long, and you kept everything from the M3.
What was your basic process? I kept my 135's NFRM, RAD2, and IHKA but everything else codable is from the M3, or removed... did you write the 1 series VIN to everything or just leave them alone? How about the date? What about the type code? I would think the NFRM and IHKA need to stay 135 (UC93) and everything else needs to be M3 (KG93?) |

I went with a hybrid approach. Initially I started editing the VO, but I had to change the TRC files after that anyways, so I ended up just coding each module individually in the end to suit my needs. You're really playing around with 4-5 depending on options you kept on the car.
IIRC I modified the CAS, NFRM, CCC, ABG, DSC, PDC, EDC, EGS, and JBBF. If you're building a stripper and its a 6 speed then I think you would be just modifying the first 5 from above. I didn't change the VIN on the modules. The dates on the modules get updated when you flash them with WINKFP, else then should remain the same. |

I think I need to update the VIN on the ECU at a minimum to pass state inspection but I'm not sure. I think the only module that updating the VIN is an issue is the KOMBI, no? |

I haven't lived in NY since 2015, but they only plugged in for emissions; inspection they never checked. The DME, CAS, and Key need to be in sync in order for the car to start so thats the main hurdle. The mileage on the Kombi and DME need to match else you get the the warning triangle. You can always reset the mileage on the Kombi and it will pick up whatever the DME has stored though.

Heya Tut4u2 what'd you do for DCT and engine oil coolers? I was going to reuse my 135 oil cooler as the DCT cooler but the connection point is like exactly different enough that it doesn't line up with the DCT cooler lines. The M3 engine oil cooler doesn't appear it will fit at all... I thought I read somewhere about the internet that it would fit.
EDIT: I think I answered my own questions by looking back at pictures. Reused the M3 DCT cooler and got the oil cooler to work?.. Probably fit because of the 1M conversion. I don't think the M3 oil cooler is fitting in the 135 bumper no matter what I do. |

The DCT cooler will fit in place of the e82 engine cooler; iirc they are different enough that you do need to use the dct version for a plug n play solution.
Where is the s65 engine cooler hitting? You have to trim the radiator support similar to how you would for a large fmic. The shroud for the front bumper will be ditched as well. After that the bumper should be flush against the cooler when you go to install it. I didn't have to trim the bumper itself. Post a Pic. |
