+1 for the water blade. My favorite drying tool. Can get them online or at AutoZone.

I use the Metro Blaster around the wheels, jambs and other spots; then a BIG plush microfiber and quick-detailer to finish.
It is the quickest and most effective solution I've found. The Metro Blaster is key. |

Not sure what you mean by 'flooding the panels'. I assume that your are referring to having the hose simply pour water onto the surface instead of spraying it on the surface. If that is what your suggesting then absolutely this is a huge time saver. When I do this I there is virtually no water left on the car. Drying the car takes literally 5 minutes with this technique. There is only a few drops of water that needs to be picked up with a microfiber. The wheels and the grill take most of the time within the five minutes as they don't lend themselves to this technique.

If only my garage was large enough. Its just barely big enough to pull the car in, and then open my driver's side door so I can squeeze out sideways.

Guys,
Top tip, if the car has been waxed, then use the open end of the hose to rinse the car and watch the water sheet off. I have a metallic black M135i and am a keen detailer, after going through my washing regime I use the Air Force Blaster. Here is a link from a detailing guru on the pros and cons of using a leaf blower vs a propriety car dryer enjoy. PyRo |

The typical air blower / waffle weave MF produces fast enough results for me, but if you don't want to expend ANY effort at all, get a CR Spotless water filter for final rinses.
http://www.crspotless.com/ I tried it a few times and it works extremely well. Only downside is cost and having to wait for the water to dry, but the water does dry without spots for the most part. |

If you really hate drying a car, use a CR Spotless. The water de-ionized and will contain nothing that will ever leave spots on your car. I knew someone who had one and washed my truck in the full sun, did not dry it, just rinsed it and zero spots. Pretty amazing, although not cheap.

I pour water on the paint with an ewer - similar to the open hose method. It kinda helps on the hood and doors.
Would love the CR Spotless system and an air dryer. I hate how the water hides under the lights and door shuts. Gahhh!

I squeegee the car (aka water blade), then hit it with a single large towel, then with a smaller one to finish it off. Then get into the door jambs and such. I've never had an issue with the squeegee, but I do take care to keep it clean. And FWIW I'm pretty anal retentive about these things (i.e. I have never once taken the car through an automatic wash). |

I don't have access to a garden hose at my apt, so I wet the car with regular tap water and a watering bucket/can (one that you would use to water plants). I then hand wash the car and this is the best part.. I rinse it off with about 5 gallons of distilled water with the same watering bucket, roll it out of the garage into the sun, and it dries really quick and leaves no water spots due to the distilled water. Works great and much easier than hand drying.

Just a Few Dollars!
I use the Absorber which does a fine job in about 10 minutes leaving a spot free result:
