If it's not a true M1, your waisting your time BMW. My Dinan stage 2 135i will already destroy some BS makeover 135is. Leaving you for a 2010 Z06 if you drop the ball. Just saying.

///R1
thats classic. I would have to say he is absolutely 100% correct. The current 1 series chassis has been out for awhile. Now at the end of it's life cycle you want to make an ///M model. The one they are testing at the ring looks down right ragedy/hideous. BMW should start fresh once this current body style rolls to an end. |

Sure, a brand new M1 specific engine, transmisson etc..... Im sure that wont cause the price of the car to rise by a huge amount. Then we can all bitch that it costs too much, its too close to the price of an m3 etc.......

I don't know. I have a fairly decently modded 1 (power-wise) and I test drove the E92 M3. The engine feels worlds better as a performance oriented car. The twin turbo N54 is boring to drive hard (in comparison) while the high-revving V8 in the M3 begs you to drive harder and nothing is more satisfying than being able to rev to +8000 rpms and the car feel like it's doing more work. With the N54's powerband, it feels like the engine just prematurely ejaculated (sorry for the graphic image, but it's the best way I can describe it).
I'm new to BMW and have yet to own an M car so I'm not biased, but there's something very special about a high-revving N/A V8.

Seriously, if they were to name a sport ute the 507, would it really cause you to lose sleep? Who cares? It's an alphanumeric name from a brand with limited heritage. Ferrari will slap the GTO badge on all sorts of rubbish and people don't put up the fight that the M1 seems to get. You didn't look up the original 328, did you? |

I really agree with you on the subject, I had a highly modified 335 Coupe (3 years) with a Juicebox 1.4, drag racing tires, sprint booster, water / meth injection... and I never had the intention to change car because it was a real bomb ... until I tried a coupe M3. Even if the kick in the ass is much less pronounced, the engine is so brave and more you whip, the more it grows ... with a sound that makes addict. It did not take more than 30 seconds at the wheel of the M3 to understand what the real fun. |

How is it nonsense? It's not a debate about which makes a car quicker. It's about pure driving enjoyment at the limits. I thought that's what M cars were all about?

I'd sure as hell enjoy a 997 Turbo at the limits over many, many cars! I think a well engineered turbo car would have no problem putting a huge smile on my face. If I was an F1 driver, I'd purely enjoy spanking everyone else in my turbocharged car too

Well that's what I'm hoping the M division will be able to do.

how bout one small and one large turbo. still doesnt prevent the "hesitation" (I dare not call it lag) but might help with the low power above 5500

Getting behind the wheel of an M3 might have a psychological effect. Even before you start driving it just from all the hype. Maybe the places you're tracking your car at just aren't really that enjoyable or pushing the 1 to it's capabilities. Drag racing is not what the 1 or M1 are made for so that doesn't count.
I think everyone who does the ED should def do a lap on the Ring before leaving to realize/familiarize themselves with this driving machine and how well it performs. It's not all about top end. |

So, yes, you can make a phenomenal turbo car that can rev to 8400rpms, but that is not what we will be getting from FI ///Ms. Cheers, e46e92

I don't follow Ferrari very closely, but Ferrari only put the GTO moniker on 250, 288, & 599 right? The 250 GTO & 288's GTO were used in FIA Races correct? And the 599 GTO is Ferrari's fastest road car ever? Not sure how Ferrari is putting GTO badge on random cars? The old 328 has no I/Ci in the name. No matter how much we argue no one will give in because we have different opinions |

Ferrari had to make the Ferrari 250 & 288 GTO in order to race in the class they wanted. And since the 599XX doesnīt race, Ferrari just slapped the badge on the 599 and called it the GTO. Iīm pretty sure the car will live up to the GTO badge, since itīs the fastest Ferrari ever. But historically, itīs wrong. Should be named something like the Scuderia or Stradale. |

I know from a source of a very well known BMW Tuner, that a supplier is right now testing a really big break for the new 1M.
So I think that the break we are seeing on the spy shots will not be the final. |
