this is a dumb thread. I'm 35 and bought a 135i because I've always been fascinated with the 2002ti. I was brought home from the hospital in one.
we all have different reasons for choosing our ride. the point of this thread is to enjoy our commonality, and not our differences. Age is a number. the BMW 1 series is a state of being. |

^my dad is taking care of what little college tuition I have (I got a pretty decent scholarship) I work for my dad as a welder/equipment operator (I'm not licensed but I'm experienced) on occasion. But up at uni I manage a burger king. It's tough but I'm currently on the deans list so I know I'm pulling it off.

i got my first job when i was 9 and hit the 6 figure mark when i was 12. decided to buy a jet at 18 and fly but found it inconvenient so i thought i'd be humble and pickup a 135i instead. cash.

However I don't believe age should be the only factor. Should at least be age with monthly expenses. And if you want to get really specific add in net worth to the equation. Although most people with money do not like disclosing their net worth. In general you'll hear more often "I have no money in my bank account" or "I'm over drawn" then you'll hear "I have X million in this account and X million in that account." But as JB135MDCT basically said, if you got credit you can get one. I see and know of many people between the ages of 18-30+ who drive nice cars, and are technically making the payments on their own. However the majority of these people still live at home. They don't pay mortgage/rent but may help out a little at home. There's also: property tax, health insurance, car insurance, food, utilities, gas, travel/entertainment etc. Some others are renting with roommates and split general expenses. Regardless there is nothing wrong with that, some people do that to save money or need to stay home and help their parents out. To the original poster, it's nice to buy a new BMW at a young age. But in my opinion, someone who is living on their own, or if living at home but takes care of the bills and can afford to buy a nice new car without any help; I give that person props. |

I wasn't interested in the props, I just usually think of the average BMW buyer as someone in their mid 30's or later. I was more interested in how the 1-series is appealing to a younger generation. And I paid my dues with my 186,000 mile honda accord before I got this car. My rent isn't exactly cheap either - $1,200 per month, no roommate. |

However it seems that instead of your intent to see the age group the 1 series was attracting, more people took it as a money vs age thing. Especially when your post says, "Just curious who the youngest owner is who didn't get any help from parents/family/etc. 22 here." People started responding back with their age and if they got any help. So I added my 2 cents which was, even if you are young and didn't get any help, there are many other factors to consider. If you look at some of the responses people did start talking about how much they pay for rent, and others responded by saying that amount wasn't enough for where they lived. That's why I commented that it should be total expenses combined with age.... Two people at the same age can have vastly different expenses. You feel that your rent of $1200 isn't cheap. However for me I think it is cheap. For someone who lives say in Nebraska or somewhere less expensive than Southern California, they would think $1200 was a lot. At 20, I was paying $1625/mo for rent, no roommates either like you. Now a days I'm paying close to $700 just for my monthly home owner dues. I'm not trying to compete with you or make you feel bad, just making a point on how cheap and expensive is relative. But it's good that you put in your dues and drove an Accord for a while. Should make you appreciate the fact that you were able to buy a new BMW on your own even more. |
