A couple points I didn't see listed.
If you get Cold Weather Package - Regular sport comes with a heated steering wheel / M-Sport you lose the heated steering wheel. Also if you get PDC, the M-Sport bumper loses the front sensors. (I'm not sure if regular 1 series have front sensors, I know this was the case on other models). |

Oh, duh. Sorry, reading comprehension sucks sometimes.
The 256 was the standard wheel on the 128i Coupe (non-Sport/non-M-Sport). I couldn't find a 2008 brochure, but in 2009 the standard (non-Sport/non-M-Sport) 135i Convertible wheel was a 17", non-staggered set called Style 142 (the same as the no-cost option on the 135i Coupe I was talking about above). I can never find a 2009 Convertible brochure, so maybe things were different in the first year of production. Or maybe it's a case of mistaken identity - the wheels are pretty similarly designed 5-spokes (sternspeiche or "star spokes," in BMW-speak). Here's Style 142: And Style 256:

The VIN list clearly shows 17" Wheels and M-Sport suspension.
It is entirely possible that the dealer in Des Moines ordered 17" wheels when it was delivered mid 2008, but i am not sure. As interesting as that might be, it is even curiouser that the entire Stage 3 Dinan package and exhasut and CF intake were installed (by Eberhard BMW in Michigan, I think), but they left the 17" wheels on it. The only think I can think of is that the owner who had that done intended to track it. There are holes in the ownership history of the car that i cannot fill. I just know the car is great fun and I loved it with the 17" wheels, but it is better with non RFTs and the 313s. |

Edit: 17" wheels are not staggered. They are all 4 17 x 7.5, I think (I am scheduled for knee replacement Wednesday and it is too painful to the wheels down to check.)

Good luck with the knee surgery. I'm having some knee pain myself and had both knees x-rayed today. I'm hoping for just a little arthritis.

The difference?
Well the M-Sport Pkg is more wonderful than the Sport Pkg simply because I have one!

Personally, I've come full circle to preferring the 264 wheels over the 261 M wheels and I think others have too based on pricing of used wheels now. Same for the headliner & door sills.

Headliner depends on color scheme. On my space gray metallic with gray interior the light grey color matched headliner is really nice. Brightens up the interior.

I looked for what I have on my hard drive and did not find a brochure for my 2009 n52 convertible. I did find one for my ex wife's 2013 n52 convertible and it shows an M option and no sport option. I got the sport option and when parked side by side, my 2009 was obviously lower than her 2013 non-sport or M sport. Her wheels are 16 inch and the same width front and back. Mine are 17 inch and 7 inches wide in front, 7.5 in back. I don't think they offered an M-sport option in the U. S. on the convertible in 2009 but my owners manual seems to indicated they did somewhere. It has 128i convertibles with the same 18 inch wheels and tires as the 135i. Bigger wheels and wider tires than my car. That suggests to me an M-Sport option, but perhaps not in the U. S.. I am unsure. I think I have a paper brochure but I don't know if I can find it.

2012 BMW 135i Coupe MSRP Sticker
Under the item M Sport Package:
-18" Alloy Double-spoke wheels -Sport Seats -Glacier Silver Aluminum trim -Shadowline exterior trim -Anthracite headliner -M steering wheel w/paddles This option cost $1,300. Further down the list, there is an entry Sport suspension which is noted as included which means there isn't any charge for it. In other words, this is a standard item for this configuration of the One. Now I have seen Ones that sit higher than my car. It is easy to eyeball the fender gap between my car and them to determine my car sits around 0.5" lower. In short, there is a non-sport or standard suspension. Maybe these cars were 128 or older models of the 135. The only way to know for sure is to examine parts numbers associated with the VIN. To further confuse matters, when I checked with Bilstein, the B6 shocks/struts were the recommended replacements. In any case, the stock suspension on my car after 6 years of ownership is as good as new! |

The only differences are cosmetic. M Sport has different wheels (I personally like the sport wheels better), black headliner, and the M door sills.
Only thing I wish I had was the black headliner |

Do you know what style your wheels are? Looking for 17's as a possible comfort option, all I found on RealOEM is 7JX17 RT:47 - styles 141, 142, 178, 207, 256, 262, 371. The 18's mostly had 2 widths (8 & 8.5) but the 17's I saw were all the same (7).

And 256s came on 2008s, though they are not staggered. Believe they are only 7" or 7.5". Have to check when I get back to town. Have a set with runflats on them (205/50) that I will sell as I have 313s now.

256s came on my 2008 135i. Square setup, but think they are only 7' or 7.5", will have to check when I get back to town, Have runflats (1000-2000 mi) on them and will sell cheap since I have 313s now.

Read the OP, some of the replies, skipped through some. I bought a 2008 135i M Sports Package. As a 2008, it had no fancy headliner, standard shift knob. No M badge on the wheels. Indeed, it came with the style 261M wheels. Wonderful design loved. Them 18x7.5 front, 18x8.5 rear. I bought the car used through an auction. From what I've been told, the car had a "wide tire package". Rear tires measures at 255/35/18.
As far a the quality, or toughness. : The car came with run flat tires stock, as most German, other luxury brands do now. Most people get rid of them their first chance. I live in Florida, the roads here a smooooth. With some occasional potholes, and in some areas (especially the big cities) they can get bad. After some tire and tire changes. I feel a slight shaking while going down the highway. This persists, get's worse over time. Went to a very trustworthy tire shop, the guys (not just one worker's opinion, multiple experienced professionals told me this): Wheels that come with run flats stock slightly rely on the rigidity of the run flat. I've hit a couple potholes, hit a few amounts of curbs at low speeds, like pulling out of a parking lot, turning in tight spaces. I am told ALL my tires are BENT BAD. I was truly shocked. They said new tires will fix the treble, but in time the bent wheel will cause the good tire to form informities. This was told to me by 4 tires shops, including Tire Kingdom. Starting to believe it a bit. Of course, hitting curbs even at low low speeds, and potholes was my doing, however for the wheels to become bent like that was surprising. I got myself a nice set of 18x8 and 18x9 from ECS Tuning for a VERY reasonable price. Drives perfect. Just need an alignment which will be done tomorrow. One of my 261M is if fairly good shape, anyone wants it <--- I'm your guy |
