The one at the LA Auto Show at shadowline and I think it takes a little of the luster out of the exterior design. It looks too plain. I agree that on cars like the 330i ZHP, it looked brilliant. But here, the 135i looks a bit naked.

this is quite a thread.
Why argue with someone over a style preference? BMW offers both because different people want different things. I think a sapphire black metallic 128i with shadowline, tinted windows, and black centered wheels will look AWESOME. Some people want the more classic look of chrome. |

If they would offer this as a simple Chrome or Shadow line exterior option, I venture to say no one would even talk about it. |

I agree its just a personal preferance, but I dont see how some think a BMW with shadowline automatically sinks it to Honda/Nissan/Kia/Hyundai status...
lol

I thought the completely over the top language I used was enough to signal my humorous intent. I don't think one choice is right or wrong. I personally like the shadowline, but on some exteriors like the chrome and have no problem having it on there. It is just a preference. I was just trying to make humorous commentary and make light of previous comments that chrome in and of itself is classy and a lack of chrome shows a lack of class.

This is a big topic on the E60 board. A very small amount of the members like the chrome. Actually its a much bigger margin than the 2:1 here. There is plenty of DIY's for swaping the trim. Does anyone know if BMW is going to offer the Gloss black shadow line, like on the 5-series. That is the best looking trim, have you guys seen it in person? Personal perference is great this is a FREE COUNTRY, but I knew the majority would pick the shadow line. To me it just more sporty, thats why BMW puts it on their M-cars. |

Well the everyone has said before. I have to agree that for me, it depends on colour. But the shadowline is a M feature. So I mean i do like the chrome, but i think chrome would look horrible on my E30 M3 or my E36 M3. Thats why i had to black out the trim on my first 325E. But again for my its dependant on model and colour

I'm all over the shadowline on my theoretical Alpine White 135i. Throw in some black mirrors to match [like the tii did] and it's drool-time. :w00t:

dark cars = chrome light cars = shadowline I think it says something when all the ///M cars only come with shadowline, and that most of the cars that have chrome are non-sport models For the record, im gettin shadowline on my white 135i

I know I've bitched about this plenty in previous threads, but it just seems ridiculous that we can't have the option of one or the other. As you can see by the pole results, one out of three people would like the chrome, why force these people to either live with something they don't really like, or pass on the ZSP all together?:iono: |

Shadowline seems to work quite well with black. Thanks to Kenpotian for the pics.

Spot on. It is colour sensitive as well, in the UK you have to pay extra for the shadowline on most models. Its a no choice option on the 135i so I just left it as shadowline. I dont think it makes that much difference truth be told. |
