I may just pay the ~350 for the whole kit+install cost at the dealer when its in for service this week. Might try to use it as a bartering chip for getting a few other things done

I will begin sourcing the individual pieces for the BMWP SSK (N54) shortly and I'll be sure to measure before and after throw lengths with photos.
A separate question I have yet to have answered is does the DSSR make that much of a difference? Is there a tangible difference in the feel? I want to know whether it's worth the $100+ that is asked for it. Once that question is answered I will have all of the components spec'd out.

I won't keep you in suspense. RESULTS: SUCCESS This mod, which shall now be known as the "t02t shifter mod", worked as advertised. The e90 performance lever fits the n55 e82, and it does the job. The procedure was as outlined in jahwerx's excellent tutorial. The only part he left out is that, when under the car, you need to bend down the metal debris shield that goes under the driveshaft, in order to get your hand up to the shift lever c-clip. See pics. So, feast your eyes on View post on imgur.com Stock throw was 60mm from 2nd to 5th. Modified throw is ~35mm from 2nd to 5th. How short is that of a shift? So short, that you're going to install it, and say "God damn, that's a short shift!" This is the shortest throw that could one could possibly want. It is a flick of the wrist from one gear to another. Post-mod, the neutral position of the lever stays dead center L-R, however it moves forward quite a ways. It is so far forward now, that if you leave your finger on the shift lever when shifting 2-3 or 4-5, you will pinch it between the lever and the front of the boot. You'll see what I mean. The height of the knob is reduced probably a centimeter. Shift time is reduced noticeably, especially during WOT. It feels strange at first, and will take some getting used to. I could see it being easier to accidentally 5-2 moneyshift, so don't do that. Pros: Cheap as HELL Easy install OEM parts God damn that is a short shift (fun) Reduced shifting time Cons: Lever moves forward a bit Takes a little getting used to Overall, would I recommend this mod for $82 from Tischer? Hell yes I would. You could even do it for just the price of the lever (~65) if you kept your old bearing, which wouldn't be a problem. I think I am going to give the performance knob a try also as ergonomically it should work a little better with the new shift range. Thanks for bringing this to the community t02t

So... when you measure the shifter throw from 1st gear to 2nd gear... How long are the throws>? Thanks for posting the above info for the rest of the guys.

Why would this at all affect the life of my synchros? I'm not ramming it between gears like some pissed-off teenager.. before or after. Not sure what you mean.

That's good, people usually associate a short shifter with fast shifting, not much time for the gears to decelerate and align on the shift.
Last week I was looking at an E92 M3, low mileage, gorgeous car and a jacked up second gear. |

Well I just finished the install. Was pretty easy and straight forward. Hardest part was getting the new retaining clip back on in that small a$$ space but got it done. So I suck at all kinds of smart things like measuring the throw difference (plus it already been done now) so I thought for us more visual learners like me I'd make a couple demo vids. The first is me demonstrating the stock throw and second is the throws after installing the e90 short shift kit. Really puts it into perspective to see the difference in action

What kind of car is this done on? Gear changes sound very mechanical/jerk-pop like...?
Thanks for the video btw much more helpful than the measurements!

It's a 2013 BMW 135i n55. Ya the gears sound very audible in this vid but its really no different than anyone else's when the car is turned off and you put it in an out of gear and you hear it. Also my garage echoes quite a bit which helps carry the sound and the car door was open while I recorded it. The shifting is a bit jerky because I wasn't holding my hand how I naturally would so that the the throw difference was visible. Had I held my hand and arm how I naturally do when I drive it would have hidden it more when demonstrating. Yes the videos really put the difference into perspective
