Here's a cheapo rig I made for the car to get different angles. Version 2 is almost ready with dedicated bipod support arms with magnetic feet to attach to the car. Should eliminate wobble at most speeds.
And this guy just arrived in the mail, anyone ever use this kinda mic before? |

Cool homebrew mount. I would recommend a third attachment point to really cut down on vibration. I would also be careful how far from the car you extend it, authorities that spot something hanging out into the other lane might want to speak with you...
I've seen lots of people talk about those microphones. It's a knock-off of a Sony for [less than?] half the price. I've read mixed reviews: some of them sound as good as the Sony, some sound like cheap Chinese knock-off crap. Hopefully the one you get is the former, not the latter. PS: shame on you for passing on the right. I was finally able to get my Nurburgring footage to upload successfully. I had to skip the CineForm Studio Protune processing, but at least it's up and viewable.

They used GoPro arrays in the last two Gymkhana videos Ken Block put out.

The Cravenspeed mount is a little expensive but it's a great piece. As I've said before, I use it mainly to mount my mic to the rear bumper and I use the suction cup mount for the camera. Maybe they'll see all the good press I'm giving them and send me a second mount to use for the camera on the front bumper.

After the Welt meet I discovered just how short the battery life on a Hero3 with WiFi is, so I decided to get the battery bacpac. I used the GoPro once and then put it away for a few weeks.
Today I decided to try some new mounting points so I checked the camera: just as I suspected, it was dead. I plugged in the battery backpack because it's SUPPOSED to have pass-through charging for the internal battery. After waiting till the battery readout showed a full charge I took the camera down to the garage. Imagine my surprise when it refused to power up or engage WiFi. I'm charging the internal battery now, we'll see if the issue is pass-through charging not working or my GoPro...

GoPro is bricked. Contacting GoPro now...
GoPro directed me to do the following to reset the camera: - Remove SD card and Battery. - Press and Hold Shutter Button (it will need to be kept pressed throughout the whole process) - Insert the Battery - Click the Power/Mode Button. Unfortunately this did not work, camera is still completely bricked.

GoPro is replacing the camera. But there's no way they'll have it back to me in time for the Stelvio trip.

I'm having trouble with mine as well, but the symptoms (stopping recording on its own, files being unreadable, etc) indicate that the memory card I'm using just isn't good enough. I have a new one on order, so hopefully that will help! Crossing my fingers...

Shaving off USB connector for better fit
Using external microphones with our GoPros can be a challenge especially when you are rigging things together to save a few dollars. So the current challenge was to use the Hero 3 polycarbonite case and use the USB audio cable at the same time. I want to keep my Hero 3 case and glass in front of my camera to protect it if I put it outside the car. I decided to drill out the area where the GoPro cable goes into the camera. Photo 1. I then used small jewelers files and filed the sides of the hole smooth so the cable would fit snug and still provide some measure of weatherproofing. Put it all together and drove around the block...camera didn't record the mike, only the internal mike was recorded. I realized cable wouldn't go into the camera deep enough for the small USB connector to fully seat into the connector.
Having been in audiovisual field for 19 years now, I knew the USB connector would have some extra rubber that I could shave off and maybe shave enough to seat better. So I used a razor blade and shaved off about 1/8" of rubber around the connector end. Now it sits deep enough in the case to fully connect and I get good audio and I also still have a snug fit for waterproofing. I hope this helps those of you with similar issues.
