Here is another option if you are looking for ways to secure your cargo. I think these straps came with the European storage compartment package. I don't think I like them as much as the cargo hooks and net but they are still a nice functional "mod". One thing that is nice it can hold those items that are too low profile too fit snug under the net. Either way you go it's important to have your items secured when you are flying through those back country roads

Those straps are very cool. It's really interesting to see how small features like this differ from country to country.

Yep, you'll find some interesting things searching different vehicles on real oem. I think there is a cargo net that uses these same type of attachment points. Next I'm going to get the parts to retrofit the 12v outlet in the trunk.

If anybody is interested in doing the straps mod I'll post the part numbers below. The stock floor liner should have four round indentions (aprox 45 mm) on the underside of it....this is where you will have to drill 25mm holes for the mounts. Its actually a really inexpensive and easy mod to do and you will probably have parts left over since the mounts are sold in packs of ten.

Great DIY! Thanks. I recently installed these hooks to tie down my spare tire. I found it easier to remove the trunk lining to clip in the first plastic pieces. (You don't have to cut off the clips from the plastic pieces if you remove the trunk lining.)

another hook position option
The rubber hold down straps look good for light things, but the cargo hooks can work for this plus handle heavy items. Some posters have raised concerns about the high position of the forward-side hooks shown in the diy. Sometimes it is a good idea to actually take a look at the car. Why not use use the slots and threaded holes in the floor at front of the trunk? For this you only need the hooks (mounting loops) and bolts with regular lower profile heads in the style of your choice. The tall shoulder bolts in the side mount kit are too tall to fit properly under the trunk mat. The trunk mat is not difficult to cut. I dremeled the slots and used a knife to finish. This doesn't look nearly as sano as the factory kit, but it is fully functional and gives a low mounting option. Pull up the trunk mat to fold the loops down when you need to slide something up into the back seat. Otherwise, they are rarely seen and out of the way just behind the seat. The camera was not optimally set up to focus on the whole scene but you can still get the idea.

Here's the cheap and reversible cargo net option. The advantage is no cutting on the car, and easily removable.
I made up a pair of flat hooks from 1/2" wide 1/16" aluminum strap, which hook under the front edge of the trunk floor. It took about a half-hour to bend them around a 1/4" drill-bit, drill the holes, and install. Installed. The carpet is Lloyd's Mats Luxe in Ebony - a near-perfect match. The cargo net is a 15"x30" from Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ilpage_o00_s00 It rides a couple of inches above the trunk floor, because the aft loops are above the floor. I like this, because even if you just set something on the mesh instead of under it, the net usually keeps the item from sliding around. Last edited by EldRick; 10-29-2014 at 09:44 PM.. |

I've been thinking I really ought to get around to installing these cargo D-hooks and cargo net. I've had all the parts sitting in a box waiting for me to get around to installing them.

That’s a cool modification - my only complaint about my setup with the forward hooks on the side is that the net isn’t very taut and as a result is less effective for smaller low-profile items.

FYI,
for those balking at the price of these anchor parts new, I just picked up everything needed for this mod for next to nothing from one of many E90's at my local pick and pull junk yard. I was there for an unrelated reason and stumbled upon these anchors, <3min to remove and I was on my way.
