M1 makes no sense from a business standpoint. It will take away from the M3, the 335i and of course the 135i. It would blur the lines of too many models. Will it destroy sales of the M3, 335 or 135? I doubt it... But I do think the majority of the M1 sales would be from people who would have bought another BMW model, so why waste would BMW waste the cash on R&D? (Especially in this economic climate)
Most people on here want it, because what enthusiast wouldnt want an ///m car for a little more than we paid for our 135's... If the 1series coupe was popular, and not a limited production vehicle, I think the chances of seeing this would be better. But to make a limited version of a car thats already scarce seems a bit redundant. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see this happening.

I am really extremely disapointed about all this stuff, no M1, M1, no M1, 135is,......
I'am going to Genova on Friday and am going to order an M1. If they won't agree I'll say them I'am going to get the RS5, and will never buy any BMW in my life. |

This is an example of why some folks say that the "M" in BMW stands for marketing.... Point being, if they want to stay true to their roots, and the reason that a lot of us are interested in Bimmers, then you make this car. Plain and simple. If they don't now, it just looks like another marketing ploy or experiment....at our expense..... Being a loyal customer (my last 3 vehicles have been BMWs), I would think that someone would care that enthusiasts like ourselves feel like we have been "had"....I have already felt bored with my 1er, for almost a year now....to me, this was a reason to stay interested in BMW....now it just seems like I will have to truly consider an alternative in a year when my lease is up.....

I understand what you are saying--I do....I just feel like we were led to believe something that obviously isn't as far along as it was initially suggested.

I think i am going to sit down in my csl seats. Start the car hear the nice 6 cil running stationary add a little throttle and already hear the airbox sing. After i see its warm and heated up. I am gonna put that baby to 8000 revs and hear the airbox scream like a deflowered virgin. Going to attack some twisties and some full attack late braking with the 6 pot brembo s. After i put my csl to rest, i am thinking bmw ///M it could be so nice to see this happen to a 1 series coupe so i can put my e46 M3 CSL to rest it has done its job very well. But it looks like she has to do her job a few years more because we have people on bmw headquarters which drink green tea and have heads which looks like green apples. There heads are so far away from motorsport heritage not even god knows were there are. The only thing we can do is pray But i think you can better start drinking green tea aswel.

I am feeling the same about my 335i coupe, and was pointing toward the M1. Now I am feeling let down and thinking about Cayman/or the F22. |

I still think it's going to happen and that most of us are just overreacting to the delay. As South said, let's cross that bridge when we get there. This is a big step for ///M. They're entering a segment at a price point they've not been in (arguably ever).
Let's be patient, I'm sure they just want to get it right.

I drove a few porsche s never owned one. (Real expensive overhere) But be careful if you drive one you never look back. The build quality is extreme. It s a real drivers car.
Watch this Awesome. |

In a few years time I will def be looking to pickup a boxster spyder. Maybe its just a pipe dream, but I really really want one.
How would you put the CSL to rest exactly? Burial or cremation? I only ask because maybe we could turn the car into a cool time capsule. Put a note on it that says "Do not open until the BMW N/A Glory Days return" |

This looks to me like outright misinformation being "leaked" by BMW to prevent people from sitting on the sidelines waiting for the M1 to come out instead of buying cars now, and here's why I think so:
The test mule we've been seeing is very far along. It's got massive brakes, much larger tires, and the production bodywork is finalized or very close to it. You don't do cold weather testing in the early stages of product developement, and they have absolutely been doing cold weather testing with this mule. That said, the idea that BMW is going to do a major upgrade to brakes and wheels, then alter the body work to make them fit is just crazy for anything short of a true //M model. It sounds to me like there have been some delays during testing, they're not as far along as they thought they would be, and they don't want the project keeping potential buyers on the sidelines for another year while they sort it out. |

Pointless obsession this m1 business.
CHIP your turbo. Upgrade your suspension, brakes. Add a body kit. Bank the money you saved on not buying an M1/135is And call it a day. |
