I know it gives more power and sounds great. Just not enough of trade offs for me. I sold the down pipe to a guy locally here... took a little over a month to get rid of the smell in the interior.
I'm not sure why but the smell really isn't bad in the 135i. With my cutout I'm basically straight piped but it doesn't smell bad at all. The only times I even notice are when the wind blows back to front and the windows are open. My wife hasn't even noticed and that's really saying something LOL.

Now my Mustang... that was a different story. But boy did it sound good!

Maybe I'm just a little more sensitive to fumes.

To give you an example, last weekend I tuned it MHD 1+ and let the default "pops and burbles" option on...

Went for a drive and I was almost passing out from the unburnt gas smell... plus the pops and burbles are silly as they're too artificial.

I was going grocery shopping and I had my tablet with me, so I reflashed it in the parking lot without those burbles and my car was great again lol
Wow haha yeah that's definitely pretty sensitive then. A friend of mine has the burble tune and I didn't notice a smell at all. I agree that they're too artificial as well, fun, but too fake.

As a company, I liked BPC and they have a reputation as the best tune for the N51/2.

Others may recommend the free Bimmerlabs 130i tune, but it is only for the N52. Us N51 guys are stuck paying for our tunes.

I could certainly smell it when you were hoofing it on the cruise, like burning popcorn...

Yeah, lol. My car is fully catted, and smells worse (better?) than his car, which is completely de-catted

Lol I only run e85 on occasionally, usually just 93octane which has 10%.

Maybe the little bit of burning oil masks it I don't have that feature...

Just wanted to chime in here being a 128i n51 driver. That's a nice find you got there Matticus91, there's not a lot of those 6MTs with that trim around, or at least when I check the market! I'm sure your buddy will have fun w it.

Too bad to know that the n51 engine is VERY limited as far as engine mods are concerned. Funny bec the other day I was reading on bimmerbob's build thread and was envisioning of doing this down the road to curb my appetite for a P-Car , but I guess the most bang-for-your-buck mods for this platform is suspension (which I already have) and an LSD. It sure is a fun car still, enough power (for me) and driving dynamics for starter enthusiasts and veterans alike.

I definitely think he'll be doing suspension, LSD unlikely but never know! Being limited on mods isn't a terrible thing, certainly better for overall reliability.
