Should be warranty. Speaking of that... does anyone else get a chattering sound from somewhere near the front of the drivetrain when starting in 1st or engaging clutch in first?

OP: I'm going into service tonight to get them to listen to my clutch a bit, with my official appointment on Oct 22. I'll let you know how it goes and whether you're alone in this or not!

Well after a meeting with the service managers and the shop foreman, they called and offered to pay for half of the repairs.... I told him i still wasnt happy but he said that was the best i can do..... We shall see what the problem with stefan's 135 is, hopefully nothing too serious, but perhaps its soemthing that could have failed on my car as well. I always have the music blaring so i probably wouldnt have noticed any noises if that had been the case

This sounds like BMW at its worst. I have owned MT cars all my life, and pushed many of them to high revs and popped the clutch on them too. You should be able to Rev to 6000 and pop the clutch. It shouldnt harm the 1, only starts harming it when you do it many times in a row as the plates and parts heat up and become more suceptable to damage. Doing it every now and then shouldnt cause any problems. Remember, we all paid bigger bugs for this car because everything is supposed to work in sync!
BMW Calgary disgusts me!... I had a honda before this, and the clutch was flawless, and never an issue. I would think that BMW clutches were better. |

What was the outcome on this? There have been several other reports of clutch issues and I would love to hear what they did.

I have had the chattering sound on many MT BMW's. I never did find out what it was.

Base from my dealing with BMW I concur with JME. The customer relations person is completely ignorant on technology, in fact their record database isn't even linked with the dealer's. (Which is a shame the best customer rep is someone who are knowledgebe on the product.) I wouldn't bother to try to explain what happened. Tell them what is wrong and it helps if you can say xxx dealership agree this is a manufacturer defect. So bring the car to another dealership for second opinion.

I wonder if the Self-adjusting clutch (SAC) has anything to do with it. Is there a hill holder system on the 135i? It seems most of the clutch problems I've been reading about are happening on the 135i. Is it because a) more people own 135 vs 128 or b) 128 actually doesn't have this problem due to the smaller engine?
Any updates dsmp? Hope it works out for you man. |
