You run 225x50-17 tires? Wouldnt you have been better off with 224x45-17? Yours are about an inch taller, and about 1.1" taller than stock front and back.

Assuming the closer you get to the stock overall diameter the better (for car electronics, speedo accuracy, and a hole host of things), if you wanted 225 tires on 17" rims, why didnt you select 225x45-17 which provide an overall diameter of 24.97, or just .3" over stock instead?

the 1 suspension is tuned for RFTs which have very very low tolerances for sidewall flex. That uneven stiffness in my wintertire sidewalls makes the car feel like it's running with unbalanced tires over 60mph.

Much smoother ride on the 225/45-17 Pirelli Sottozero 210 non-RFT winter tyres on our 135i than on the 18" RFT summer tyres. Smooth and quiet at any speed. I would suspect a defect or uneven wear on your Dunlops, they should work well on any BMW.

LM-25 blizzaks. I am very happy with the tire. Good ride in the dry and wet plus very good in the snow. The tread wear has been good considering it is a snow tire.

During my 1st winter with this car, I was always worried about morning snow. Luckily that winter was fairly light so I got away with just taking one of the snow days off. The OEM RFTs are drivable in below freezing weather, but nothing more than just going from A to B at a steady pace.

However, last year the DC area got historically high records of snow and for most of January my new residential community had snow on the roads (because VDOT is worthless and ran out of money for cleanup). I had one bad experience where I couldn't even leave my driveway and my neighbors had to help push me back into my garage. After that I plunked down money for a winter set; totally worth it. No longer do I worry about the snow or the incompetence of VDOT plowing. Enkei 18" EKM3 with Blizzak WS60's (using Tire Rack's default recommendation).

my 128 is coming in soon, and I am planning on getting a set of winter tires in a couple months. for this first winter, I was planning on just using the stock wheels. can anyone tell me if a 205 square setup will work for the staggered 17" rims? I am unclear if the 205's would fit on the rear.

They're a super dark gunmetal, but most of the time they look gloss black to me.

I don' think 16" will fit the 135i...not enough clearance with the brakes ...but I could be wrong. Check out Tirerack.com for pricing on a set of winter tires mounted on 17" wheels. Their prices are really good.

I live in North Eastern Long Island. I drive our 135i in the snow with 17" snow tires and I had no problem at all even when climbing on a hilly road. However, since the car is very low to the ground, I will not drive thru an unplowed street with high accumulation.

I am not sure how the shipping would work out to Edmonton. I am 10 minutes from border so I had mine delivered (free delivery in USA at the time I purchased) to a receiving agent in the USA. I drove down and picked them op I had to pay the tax at the border but no duty. My package cost me around $1000 for Blizzaks mountedon some Sprot edition 17" aluminum wheels. I shopped around in Vancouver and the prices were way more $$$.
