Isn't that an awesome drawing or what!

And I'm not sure which one it is but it's going to be one of these:

Nice!! I see where you are going now. Splice in a new section of wire with an enviro splice and then crimp (is it a crimp connection?) on a new pin and insert into the existing connector. Yeah that will be about perfect, probably easier than installing a new harness too. Good luck and keep us informed on how it turns out.

LOL, that is sweet. Is that you, Bryan, behind the Berk Technology user name?

I spoke to the S.A., the tech won't be looking at it closely until my window regulator arrives and gets installed but the idea they have is to shrink wrap around the wire and then wrap with electrical tape . That's exactly how it is right now! I'm going to look into your suggestions, but might use some F4 or "rescue" tape to just insulate the wire. I have electrical experience, but feel like the risk of screwing up an ignition wire is too much for me to handle.

As an update for everyone and for future searches, I received my car back today after getting a new window regulator under warranty and the S.A. advised me that the only option was to replace the entire harness ($$$) or, after he spoke with other mechanics, do exactly what I did and shrink wrap the wire and wrap around it with electrical tape.

I did, however, manage to pick up some "Rescue tape" from Bass Pro Shops, as it was the only place locally that seemed to stock it. Rescue tape is a consumer version of "F4 tape" as was suggested to me by a number of you. Rated to 500ºF, 950 PSI tensile strength, and rated to something like 8000V of insulation. I will be wrapping the wire up with this tape and will be thinking of rodent-fighting strategies so that this doesn't happen again!

So its still wrapped in tape? I'm assuming you're out of warranty, or this isn't deemed as a warranty-able item.

thanks for the follow up..

I knew thew were going to go for the "whole harness" route... It covers there arse... Ins co. do cover this, so in the future if you should decide you could go that route.

I personally would have no problem with the repair. Just make sure they ( the critter) didnt go anywhere else.. bright flashlight, check everywhere you can see.

Good Luck

Yea, although I'm still covered for another year, this is not a warranty item. Nothing BMW did wrong here, unless they stuck some rodents in there or got one of their techs to chew on the wire!

Thanks. I also have no issues with the tape repair, especially knowing that this tape will not melt and leave a gooey mess. I'll be searching high and low for more damage!

That was definitely chewed on by some sort of bastard creature. I see it at my dealership all the time.
