I am trying to update maps on my brothers 2010 E90, currently 2009-1 Premium
Got the maps on a good USB stick but the car does not recognize it at all no prompts to start update. I used this stick on my wifes 2011 with no issues at all.
Any help appreciated.

If CIC firmware is too old, you must make update via DVD as USB Map Update is not supported.

Double Layer Double Density DVD is 8.5 Gb.

You can flash CIC with WinKFP and latest SP-Daten, but you need expensive ICOM interface.

Just updated the Nav maps in my 2013 135i - used the folks at *** Navi Pro and spent a grand total of under $32 USD for the nav files and FSC code.

You learn about customer service when things go a bit sideways and I initially was pointed at a set of Next Big Thing updates. That was resolved very quickly, response to my inquiry was almost immediate. I got access to the appropriate RAR files and downloaded them. It takes awhile . . .

I run Linux, specifically Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, and there were zero problems getting four 8 GB+ USB sticks formatted in Win95 FAT32 and then the data decompressed (using Archive Manager).

Took the sticks to the car, started it - since I didn't want to run on battery for potentially 90 minutes, inserted the first USB and watched the system ask me for the FSC. That in-putted it will then download from the sticks, asking for the next when complete. At the end it reboots and a minute or two afterwards you can see the new map version. Total time just at an hour to do the update.

Pretty slick and a tenth of the price of the retail version. : -)

Hi Shawn,

I think i ran into this issue, i was not able to complete the update in my car, it kept on asking for a DVD.

Do you have a procedure for this available?

Thanks in advance

The issue is your map data, nothing else. Either it was not copied to USB correctly, or is corrupt.

Your issue is pre 03/2010 build with 09/2009 Firmware. You must update CIC firmware to update map.

Car must be Programmed with ISTA/P or CIC Flashed with WinKFP. Car must be on a 50+ Amp Continuous charger, and for E-Series you need an ICOM Interface.

I would just bite the bullet, have pay dealer to program car if you plan on keeping it a while.

Hi Shawn,

Is been a couple of months, anyways just wanted to check in with you. So i checked with the dealer and they want $700 for the firmware upgrade.

Ive read all threads related to CIC map upgrades and i think i could update my system using DVDs. I saw on a post of your that you had ordered the maps and you got 6 Discs. Do you still have them ? ( i know you got them ages ago)

Thanks in advance

$700 is insane. I think you could find a local workshop or coder to do for far less. Sorry, I do not have DVD version.
