Hey guys, I'm a new member on here & new to 1 series ownership.
I've read through this thread & I think I will be fine but would just like some more experienced 1er owners to put my mind at ease. I have a 123d in M-sport trim & the previous owner changed the suspension to Bilstein B12 which has lowered the car. I'm on stock M-sport wheels with 225 40 18 tyres up front, I don't have any rubbing issues but my front tyres are worn & need replacing. I'd like to stick to 225 40 18's up front but I'm worried that new tyres could possibly rub compared to my worn down tyres as my car is lowered. Can anyone confirm that I should be fine? Thanks. |

Would this set up work ok for track tires on stock suspension? I want to go square but from what I've searched, this won't be possible for a track setup with 100% stock suspension (well 245 all around may fit but may rub on hard turns). I'm on a 2011 135i M-Sport.

Searched through every page of this thread, and am hoping I can get some advice here. Here's what I have/want:
2009 128i coupe, Sport pkg, w/ 17's. Bone stock I'd like to run: Breyton GTS-R's, 18"x 7.5" square setup all the way around. After calling TireRack, some rep named Austin told me I shouldn't need to make any modifications and should be fine. Is this true? However, I understand there's a reason why BMW staggered their wheels from the factory, and 7.5's all the way around isn't a common setup from what I've seen. Most stagger. Plus, Austin asked me if my car was a coupe or sedan. Yup, that happened. Will this work out for a neutral setup? This is just my daily driver here, no track work, just some spirited enthusiast weekend driving and a huge fan of the 1er. How will my car handle differently after the swap? Also looking to run Bridgestone PPS-04's. What's a good recommendation for tire size for front/rear? Long time member here, but don't post often. Very appreciate of this forum and it's members. Thanks in advance for any feedback. |

My concern is that if I go more narrow in the rear, the handling will drastically change for the worse. That's why I'd like to know what the difference is going to be with running 7.5"s in the rear. And also what size tires to stick back there. Square setups interest me because of the idea of handling neutrality. Not to mention I found a sick deal on the 18x7.5's... |

Hah, no under steer please. And I know this is a newb question, but what's the ideal street tire setup with the 18x7.5's in front and rear? Don't necessrily care about staying square or rotating, as I'll be getting asymmetricals anyways. |

I have the same wheels as you but in 18x7.5 and 18x8.5
I was planning to run 225/40 front and anywhere from 235/40 or 245/40 or 255/35 rear. for you, I guess the range can be between anywhere of 215 to 235... or else the tire will look too fat for the wheel. there really isnt an "ideal" setup. |

Wheels: Simmons FR1
Front: 20x8.5 +43 Spacer: none Rear: 20x9.5 +52 Spacer: none Tires: Front Nankang Noble Sport NS-20 235/30/20 (Temporary Until Nitto's come into stock 2 month wait at least for these sizes) Rear Nankang Noble Sport NS-20 255/30/20 (Temporary Until Nitto's come into stock 2 month wait at least for these sizes) Suspension/Fender Mods/Camber: -BC ER - Stock suspension height -BC front camber plates (brings the tires "in" more, away from the fender lip), ~1 deg neg camber front & rear -slight roll rear from previous wheels, don't know if these would rub with stock rear fenders -Fronts don't rub at all Notes: These are my cruising wheels so why the hell not. Its nice and comfortable and not harsh at all like stock suspension with stock wheels. We have Pretty good roads but for the hell of it I took it down one of the worst roads in Sydney called Parramatta Rd and it was still more comfy that stock. Well its pouring here in Sydney so I went for a spirited drive around the area where its safe to test these new tyres, quite surprised how good they actually are.
They hold pretty well up to the 18's even as far to say way more traction which blew me away. Ok they are still new tyres and a few thousand kilometres down the track will prove how good they are but for $698 dollars AUS fitted wasn't a bad price until my nitto's come in to stock. I was told they are pretty shit tyres but to my disbelief they are quite good. As soon as the weather gets better I'll take it to the drags and see how this setup holds up, report later. |

yeah im sorry. I forgot to add my alignment specs. Im running -2* camber front and rear. And I would say the 40mm offset on the rear would be really close to the fender. The 45mm with the 9" wheel is flush. I'd say the 8" and 40mm would fit just fine. (can't confirm)

Front 18x9 et38 245/35 Conti DW 1.5" drop (tire tucked slightly) -2 deg camber Fenders rolled and pulled, bumper tab shaved Rear 18x9.5 et50 265/35 1" drop -1.8 deg camber No fender mods I thought about 255 in the fronts but decided not to push my luck If it was Hankook V12s I'd say it's definitely possible, but not really ideal on a 9" wide rim |

Sorry to pull up an old post but it could create more understeer but there are many performance focused cars with narrower front tires than rears. It's more of a matter of tuning your chassis to get the weight and traction where you need it throughout the corner (I.E. Sway bars, ride height, camber) than a matter of the rubber. On the street I think the difference would be negligible.

Just for reference:
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=862626 Stock suspension with front alignment pins removed, strut tops pushed in. 255/35/18 18x8.5 +45 front, 275/35/18 18x9.5 +62 rear (currently have a 5mm spacer resulting in +57, doesn't really seem to matter much either way) Slight rubber of rear driver's side inner fender liner, no other real issues even at full lock parking, driving aggressive, bumps, etc. I take the wheels on and off at least twice a year to swap on my winter set and don't see any other evidence of rubbing.
