With respect to install costs, I've heard $300 thrown out there quite often. On our cars the pipes are somewhat accessible compared to other cars so you could try the install yourself if you are so inclined. edit to add: AudiKiller, I just pm'ed you some info on potential pricing right now on AR's and CP-E N54 catless DP's. Just went through the price hunt myself on these...

Coming over from 335i
I just totaled my 335i and am looking to get a 135i. I want to make sure that it has an oil cooler which years and i assume it comes with sport package? Are the 135's different regarding the oil coolers? Also anyone have any recommendations or things to look for in buying a 135i vs the 08 335i i just totaled? Thanks. |

i used to have a 135i, now i have a 335i. i'm almost positive that all 135i's have an oil cooler. just make sure you get a 135i with at least the sports package. there's also the m-sport package, it adds different rims and the black alcantera headliner. the sports package is great though. m-sport shifter, steering wheel, sports seats, etc. |

I'm under the impression that all 135i's have an oil cooler in the right front wheel well, so if you're poking around, look in there, you'll see the venting by the tire.
However, I did install an extra oil cooler in my old 135 and it made a massive difference, so I think the stock one might be a little on the small side, but at least it's there. It will eventually get installed on my new 135, but it just comes down to when i'm not being lazy. Last edited by The1; 04-03-2012 at 11:16 AM.. |

The cooler in the front right(pass side) is the oil cooler! ALL 135i's have them except for early '08 Verts I believe. |

Thanks for the replies and opinions!
One more question. Blow off VS diverter valves I know DVs are recirculating thus helping in keeping the turbos spinning and improving boost recovery. BOVs release compressed air to the atmosphere. My question is.. Why do so many people choose to run BOVs? Because it sounds cool??? Or am I missing something?

^yes, it's mostly the sound. also, divertor valves being recirculating isn't a positive thing. there's been research that shows recirculation isn't good for the boost control/response. the other main reason people get a bov or divertor valves is because the stock charge pipe can leak at higher boost levels, or pop-off. a quality charge pipe/bov combo can hold higher boost better and limit issues. i've never had any problems with the stock chare pipe, running up to 18psi, but others have. i wouldn't say it's a necessary mod.

^i've never seen/heard of any n54 charge pipes cracking. that's an issue with the n55. the stock charge pipe isn't restrictive, either. look up ETS's dyno results from going from the stock charge pipe to the ETS charge pipe. minimal (if any) hp/tq gains.

Maybe it was an N55 picture I saw
When I ordered mine I wasn't thinking about hp gain, didn't think there would be any; just more responsiveness |

The aftermarket charge pipes will be more responsive for sure, as long as they are stiffer and less accordianed then stock. The stock is very soft and I expect it would expand and contract a lot.

oh. in that case, a charge pipe won't replace that portion of the induction piping, unless you buy an intercooler that comes with one (ets, stett, i think helix). aftermarket charge pipes just replace the piping leading to the throttle body, that also have the divertor valves.
