The final map update for CCC was 2014. If you jump on e90post Australian section there was a guy giving them out for free.

Installed combox! I had purchased a Combox Telematics from the USA for a good price.
Installation requires some repinning of plugs and coding. All the pins on the MULF2 unit (non telematics) I had are compatible with either Combox MEDIA or Combox Telematics. For a retrofit you can buy either one, doesn't matter. The actual harness plug is NOT the same though. The only annoyance I found was that the bluetooth antenna cable was 2CM too short to reach the unit when bolted in. I have fitted one of these to a 3 series and it seems like that vehicle had a bit more slack built into the cable. I have ordered a FAKRA 'Z' extension cable: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/191522538...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT 1x 61136913644 - harness plug 1x 61136913626 - socket housing Coded it up and worked a treat: Needed to remove: #0909 - Mines an Oct 08 build, too old $606 - Navigation Business Needed to add: $609 - Nav professional $6VA - CIC $6VC - Combox $7SP - Combox $614 - BMW Internet $615 - BMW Online $6NR - BMW Apps The main reason I got the combox is to allow Bluetooth music streaming and reading of SMS messages. Both worked without a hitch. Great ot finally be able to play music from my phone and be able to use the steering wheel to skip tracks. BMW Apps I can't get to work at all, tried both of my Android phones which are recognized by the audio player but wont detect when I select BMW apps. BMW online and internet didn't work either initially, but more on that later. Since the BT antenna is too short, i'm just leaving the combox loose in the boot, with a towel underneath it to stop it from scratching the metalwork. Will need to wait for the cable before I can bolt it in properly. Images show the combox, SMS view and BT audio selection

BMW online and BMW Internet
These are gimmicky features but may as well get them working since my headunit is activated for them Was a bit of a pain, but got it working. Ultimately you need to find a russian VIN number of a car that came with BMW Online and Internet. This region allows those services to be used without a subscription. I then wrote the VIN to the combox and turned on Bluetooth tethering on my phone. The result is a very clunky web browser (which doesn't work for most sites since the SSL certificate has expired! ) BMW Online only shows weather, don't know if I need to set up an account properly with BMW before it works with Web Radio. For some reason I can't log in with the account I made with my CIC, it just displays an error saying theres no connection when I try to login. Gimicky features and way to slow for actual use, but a good conversation piece at car meets lol

Great job on the retrofit!
A note about how to get the climate control locked - it is the 'REST' dial/button on the right. In CIC updated cars this button is called 'ALL' and you can adjust climate control on both sides at once by pressing the fan speed up in Auto/manual mode |

Also looks like the ALL feature can't be coded on my prelci unit, whereas the REST function can be coded for the LCI controls. If I come across an LCI climate control for cheap I might consider putting one in, might have to get one with seat heating since the LCI climate control has the seat heating buttons.

Had the CIC unit out of the car to image the hard drive. This is a very good idea for anyone with a CIC, as the hard drives can eventually fail in older cars.
The PATA ide SSD that came with the CIC unit is the wrong size (its a more compact shorter 2.5" drive) so will not work in the CIC's hard drive cage. I have now ordered a MSATA to IDE converter, which will open up my options to drive choices. I have also purchased a 512GB msata SSD for my laptop. I will put the 512GB into my laptop and take the old 256GB ssd into my CIC. While I had the CIC unit I decided to reroute the CIC's USB cable. Previously the USB cable barely reached the CIC, as it was routed behind the glovebox as it was a lot easier that way. As I want to do things properly, I decided to route the cable in front of the passenger airbag above the glovebox. This required some extra disassembly, I needed to unbolt the lower part of the dash just enough to fit the cable through. Luckily there's a cable tidy clip in there that can be used to hold the usb cable nice and securely. After the rerouting, theres at least 30cm of extra slack in the cable, so its much easier to remove/install the CIC unit.

Actually looks a lot worse than it is, only took about an hour to do, and I haven't taken apart much in my interior before.

Updated Maps to 2017
Didn't really need to do this but someone gave me the map data so may as well do it. I have previously retrieved the 1B file out of the CIC unit with my ICOM cable, but had tried many times to generate the code with no success. For some reason, the FSC generation has changed for 2017 Australia Premium. Thanks to kookie he told me of the correct xml data for 2017 Previously you would just increment SWID_FscShort for every year: 00300005 for Aus Premium 2014 00300006 for Aus Premium 2015 00300007 for Aus Premium 2016 Now its 0030002A for Aus Premium 2017 For anyone who needs it, heres the XML needed to add into the lookup.xml to generate your own map FSC code. Code:
<SgbmId id="NAVD_000004D6_255_000_144" SWID_FscShort="0030002A" name="Road Map Australia/New Zealand PREMIUM 2017 supplier="TAS" sop="01.09.2016" version="10_09" MapOrderNumberBMW="" MapOrderNumberMINI="" MapOrderNumberRR="" successorMapOrderNumberBMW="" successorMapOrderNumberMINI="" successorMapOrderNumberRR=""> <EcuVariant CompatibilityIdentifier="HU_CIC-HB" Format="CIC" /> <SwUpdate SwUpdateEntry="No"/> </SgbmId>

Previously I was unable to mount the combox properly as the Bluetooth antenna length was too short. This meant I just have ot leave the combox sitting there.
I decided to buy an extension cable to bridge the gap. The bluetooth cable uses a FAKRA connector. Theres a whole bunch of different FAKRA connectors, they're keyed for the application so you can't accidentally put a GPS antenna into a Bluetooth unit etc. These connectors can be tricky to find cheaply, I decided to just buy a FAKRA Z extension cable. The 'Z' variant means its uncoded and is universal and can plug into any fakra plug. The cable was too long and I didn't want loose wires hanging in the boot, so I shortened the cable. You lose a fair amount of signal through a 1M cable too. I've figured out the perfect way to splice a coax cable nicely without loosing shielding. Still looks a little untidy where the main plug connects but that's due to the MOST cable being 20MM too short. I'll probably just leave it as that would require unraveling all the tape and hoping the fibre optic cable can be pulled out for a little more slack. Quite happy how everything came together

Any one who drives these cars hard will know that the power steering reservoir cap is a terrible design. The rubber oring has a tendency to leak, but even when thats fixed, theres an exposed vent hole in the cap. This cap does not have any sort of valve so the power steering fluid is effectively exposed to the air.
This results in the power steering sloshing out under hard driving, and makes a mess of the surrounding components. People try and remedy this with: - Different style cap (don't like this option as it has no pressure relief) - Putting a sock over the reservoir to absorb the fluid (Doesn't fix the problem and doesn't pass scrutineering at racetracks anymore as it is a fire hazard) - Retrofitting the servotronic PS reservoir (don't think this has a pressure relief either) - Secondary overflow bottle (Hard to get a clean result, but easily removable when not tracking the car and is relatively cheap) I ended up opting for the overflow bottle route. I found a nice looking brake fluid reservoir that can be used for this application. The nipple on the reservoir was too large for the hose I intended to use, so that had to be cut off and I screwed in a small brass nipple on the end. I purchased a spare reservoir cap and stuck in a 3.5mm 90 degree plastic barb into it. This routes the vent to the bottle via a 3.5mm silicone hose. Mounting the bottle was a bit tricky. Luckily theres an M6 bolt holding the power steering reservoir to the bracket, so I can use that has a point of attachment I had some spare N54 valve cover ground posts (which happen to be M6) so I shortened one and machined it on my lathe, then used an M6 die to cut a thread to mount the new overflow bottle on. The only annoyance is when the cap is fully screwed down, the vent hole is an awkward position for the hose to reach. I think my original cap had it in a more favourable position so might end up using that instead.

Shopping list for the power steering overflow bottle mod:
Barb (4mm hose, M5 male thread) http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/281878696727 Reservoir http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/262315935885 Plastic 90 degree barb (perfect push fit into the hole in the cap) http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/351042125127 Silicone hose https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...er-11727545323 You'll have to come up with your own mount, could easily be done with a long M6 bolt with some nuts on it.

Did you look into the 1M reservoir swap? Sure it's more expensive, but it also looks a lot better

Yep thats the Servotronic/active steering power steering reservoir which was also an option on non M vehicles too. You have to fit a different barb to one of the lines as it is a different hose size to the standard one. Also I don't believe the cap is vented, looking at pictures of the underside of the cap it looks fully sealed. So I'm not sure if that has any ill effects on the power steering by using that cap. Servotronic system might have alternate means of pressure relief not present in standard hydraulic steering, not sure. I'd definitely look into it when I come across a car with this reservoir and there's some sort of pressure relief.

LCI climate control unit
Picked up an LCI climate control unit off ebay. Perfect condition, no scratches or wear marks on it. This climate control unit has the ability to lock both climate control zones together with the ALL button. This allows you to change both zones with the driver's side knob, instead of having to do both all the time. It also has a variable intensity automatic climate control setting, unlike the prelci unit. I am not 100% sure but it also looks like the screen is slightly different and gives slightly better contrast and is a little brighter. I initially thought i'd have troubles with not getting the unit with the integrated seat heating buttons as I wanted to reuse my old buttons. I can happily say the heated seats still work fine with my original buttons. Upon coding the LCI climate controls, I noticed that the unit reverted back to the prelci functionality. I had to change my production date to 2011 and recode to regain the LCI functionality. Maybe it would be possible to obtain the LCI functionality via coding, if your pre lci unit has new enough firmware in it. I'll plug in my old unit at some point and see if it works via coding.

Ah I want one! I cant believe that the unit I have does not allow the left and right to be locked together. Even a 2005 VW gold has that ability! Also my LCD screen had faded and is missing some lines at the top. Do you have a link to another one on ebay?
