I had my LI and V1 Hardwired installed professionally and it took about 6 hours time. This was on my E90 M3 and E70 X5. I want to get on this group buy as well but I'm blowing way to much cash on shiny things so far.

I don't think it matters how far they stick out, the concern would be if anything is blocking the unit from the front. EG...mounting behind the grille.

So it more than likely does need to extrude from the grill. I was hoping to put it a bit further back in but I'd rather it work than look pretty. I'll ask Cliff to get his thoughts as well.

You can put it further back, but it will block shots off center axis. Think about it, use a laser pointer... if you go off from 0 degrees on center axis, at some point, the slats will block the light. While some laser radiation will still reach it, will the delay cost you the impact that the jammer is trying to achieve? The best place to install them would be in the headlights somewhere toward the center of the car, especially if you don't run a front plate - because if no plate, they aim for headlights.

I seem to remember some R&T or was it C&D test that showed by just turning on your low beams you cut the range down like 40% for when the cop's laser can lock onto your car. And when they ran with high beams on the results were even better. This test was years ago though. I assume the tech has gotten a lot better now. |

I'm interested in the technology but I just set the cruise at 7 mph over and routinely go past officers. I do more highway cruising in rental cars than my cars, however. I think having a loud or otherwise attention drawing car doesn't help. Still I occasionally go faster to avoid having a truck cut me off (again) and am at risk of getting a bad ticket sometime. I am surprised when I look at the peak speed on my GPS (I didn't know rentals could go that fast!). Still I haven't had a ticket in about 20 years.
I like this website for reviews of this kind of stuff: http://www.radardetector.org/detecto.../laser-jammer/ This guy used to be a police officer and tests equipment with radar and laser devices to see how well it works. If you want to save even more money, at the expense of some coverage, it looks like the Blinder system is still pretty good (possibly good enough for our cars as opposed to a SUV) and is a couple hundred less. Escort's system is apparently noticably less capable than either the Blinder or the Laser Interceptor. Jim

I'm going to try hardwiring both my Escort and the LI tomorrow. I purchased two 'Add-A-Circuit' mini-fuse to power the escort and the LI. Anyone see anything wrong with doing this? The fuse box is behind the glovebox right? I'm hearing my best bet on fuse numbers would be 5 and 8 if I remember right, they both should not have power when the ignition is off. There's evidently also a ground somewhere by the fuse box. Got some 16-14 gauge quick connects to go with it. I think I'm set?? Just remembered I forgot to get something to use to pull the wires from the front sensors through the firewall. I don't think I have a metal hanger. Can you even buy metal hangers anymore?

If you don't have a coat hanger, single strand wire sold to hang pictures is actually probably better. It is thinner so you need a smaller hole. It is usually still stiff enough. I prefer to solder and use heat shrink tubing.

You're going to have to do some drilling...this is how I would mount them, if and when i get the rear diodes.

I don't remember where I saw it, but you can drill through the corner of the license plate light housing to get inside the trunk. That was you can just replace those little lights and have no holes if you ever remove the system.
Cheers, Bryan
