I agree, if they dont name it the M1, it will be suspect to the uneducated that it is not a true M car. On the other hand, this could also mean a lower price point.

I still can't believe some of you would completely pass on the car depending how it is named though. If the car performs to expectations, who cares? Are you worried that other people may not believe it is a true ///M car? If that's the case, then maybe M really does stand for marketing these days.

There, I fixed it for you That should show BMW how important it is that the name fit with other M cars such as the M3, M5, and M6.

IMO, there's only one correct name for this car, and that's 1M. It avoids any confusion with the only supercar ever built and is also in line with other ///M cars, for example the Z4M, the X5M and the X6M.
Best regards, south

Imagine what would happen to the M3 ---> 3M = it sticks like a post-it.

Anyone wonder why BMW didn't think of this problem when they released the 1 series. Now if we are going to release a M version of this 1 few years down the road how would we name it.

Thinking of it, there's another option: M135i, which would be in line with the old M635CSi. I'm pretty sure it's one of these two names, 1M or M135i. Any other name wouldn't reflect the extensive use of M parts. Best regards, south

I hope that they don't call it M135i .... The name should be as far away from 135i as possible... otherwise my mind will be fooled into thinking that I got ripped off by buying a slightly modded 135i, specially since I know that in reality it will be much more special.

Basically...they are not proud enough of the car to use ///M1 So it does indeed feel like it will be half assed. Already they have the majority of us XXXXX over paying for a car that is not exactly..full proof and 100% reliable.....rattles...hpfp...broken lights... and the hood which does not line up propery to head lights.. should I go on ?? Build it right and name it properly. I sometimes feel like I purchased a rushed job..and of course only learned and noticed all this after purchase... But like the rest of the addicts...I still love her...lol

I rather them leave the M out of it and call it tii or something, then just tack on the M badge. M1 is what it needs to be, if it is truly an M car with the same resources and effort put into developing a car like an M3 or M5.
